My coworker is talking to me over the cube wall about getting a boob job. Her comments are making me think about boob jobs in general.
Would you get one? Yes or no and why?
Do you think insurance should cover one? Yes or no and why?
How much would you pay for one out-of-pocket?
Would you tell people you were getting it?
My coworker is talking about getting them put in, but we can discuss reductions too if you want....I know I wouldn't want my J cups any bigger, haha.
Re: boob job
Do you think insurance should cover one? Yes or no and why? Nope. If I have to pay to get a non-suspicious looking mole removed, then people should have to pay for boobs.
How much would you pay for one out-of-pocket? Well I guess none.
I'd tell people who wanted bigger boobs, don't do it. I can see someone getting a breast lift, or reduction, but why do you need bigger boobs? Believe me, they do not get smaller than mine, well it'd be hard to come by, and it's fine. I guess if you were really super insecure about it then I'd suggest therapy. Save the money and put it towards your mortgage, or your kids education, or your retirement. Or heck, credit card debt, because most of the western world seems to be drowning it it these days. Sorry if this is a UO!
ETA: oops, thought the last question asked what would I tell people who were getting it LOL, so reformatted my answer. Can you tell I have a small opinion on this?
I also agree with the poster below me that a reduction should be covered or partially covered if it was causing back pain etc.
Do you think insurance should cover one? Yes or no and why? Only if huge boobs are causing extreme back problems. Then I think a reduction should be covered. Otherwise, no.
How much would you pay for one out-of-pocket? Not sure, but if I didn't have the extra funds, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't go into debt for it.
Would you tell people you were getting it? A lift probably would not be all that noticable from the outside considering I wear push up bras anyway. Maybe just my mom, sisters, and BFF. That would be it.
I fully intend on getting breast implants after our last kid is born. And maybe a tummy tuck, if necessary. Insurance will not cover it for us, it'll all be out of pocket. And no I wouldn't tell them I was getting one. Well, probably a few close friends and family but for the most part no. My boobs don't really come up in conversation often lol But if asked, I'll be honest.
I cannot wait to get them! I have a very tiny chest and it is even smaller and saggier now after E. I can only imagine how it'll look after a second pregnancy. It really screws with my own self-image. I see no problem in wanting to fix something like that to make myself happy.
ETA: Therapy will not help me accept my small, saggy boobies. Sorry, that is unrealistic for me.
I will tell you what my coworker is saying to me, which is kind of making sense in my head now.
She wants bigger ones. She works out a lot (and reminds us of this every day) so in her mind, since she has worked so hard to become more healthy, and her boobs got smaller b/c of it, insurance should cover the boob job. Andplusalso, it will give her spirits a boost and that will make her a more healthy individual overall as well.
It will cost $6K.
She has no college fund for her 2 kids. They do have some CC debt as well. They live in her parents' house. They lease their cars.
If you couldn't tell, I do not think this is a good idea for her or for her family and their financial situation. But she sure can make a good argument, haha.
Would you get one? Yes or no and why?
Maybe, I would want a lift but I don't like the idea of cutting out the nipple and relocating it (which is what they do for many lifts). It is my favorite sex bit and I can't get over the idea that it may change in 'sensation.' (TMI anyone?)
Do you think insurance should cover one? Yes or no and why?
No, not for me. It's just for looks not for reconstruction or pain relief or anyother health issue.
How much would you pay for one out-of-pocket?
I guess not more than $8000 total (after hearing what it cost for jlsimon56's co-worker).
Would you tell people you were getting it?
No, not really.
My coworker is talking about getting them put in, but we can discuss reductions too if you want....I know I wouldn't want my J cups any bigger, haha.
Would you get one? Yes or no and why?
Absolutely 100% yes. Had you asked me several years ago I would have said no. I used to make fun of my friend for having implants. I've always been comfortable in my own skin and loved my small boobs. I still love them and have no issue with them. But I ballooned up to a D cup when my milk came in and loved them! Quite simply... now that I know what it's like to have them, I want them back. I will be getting one within the next few years.
Do you think insurance should cover one? Yes or no and why?
Reductions for back issues and other health concerns? Yes. Implants for mastectomy patients? Yes. Implants and lifts solely for cosmetic purposes? No. If my friend has to pay for her 5 month old special needs daughter's cranial helmet because it's consider cosmetic, then I should have to pay to enlarge my breasts. Whatever the reason for wanting them.
How much would you pay for one out-of-pocket?
You get what you pay for. I won't get one until I can afford to get the best of the best. It will probably be upwards of 8 grand.
Would you tell people you were getting it?
Definitely. I will be getting an OBVIOUS change. From an A to a small D. I'm very open about my body anyway.

I realize that my response was over the top, I did mean for that to be taken tongue and cheek, sorry if it came across super rude. It just makes me sad when people are so unhappy with aspects of their bodies and just wish it was possible to make everyone feel beautiful as they are, but I know that's an impossibility. And I do understand feeling this way after having kids and our bodies changing. I guess in my mind I was tending to think more of someone getting these huge jugs just for the heck of it. I guess that's a stereotype.
Understood. I have a small frame, so for me anything bigger than a C cup would just look ridiculous. And mine went up to a C when my milk came in and I think I looked fabulous LOL But I do agree with you that when they are too big for a person's frame it tends to look a little odd.
I actually already have breast implants that I got when I was 23. When people find out that I have implants, they're usually really shocked because I'm only a C cup with implants. I was basically in a training bra before my surgery, so I had them done to make my body more proportional right after I got married. (DH was indifferent about my breast size but supported my decision either way.) I'm happy to say that I have been breast feeding without supplementation for almost 10 months and we're still going strong.
I DO NOT think that insurance should pay for any type of breast implant unless it is reconstructive surgery for cancer patients who have had a mastectomy (like my mon). I paid $5,000 for mine, but we have no debt and are able to pocket my entire paycheck and some of DH's as well. I wouldn't have done it in any other situation. All that ring said, I'm happy with my decision and I don't feel like I'll need them redone after we finish nursing. They look even more natural now that I've nursed with them.
I'll probably get a "mommy makeover" once I'm done having children. I'm down below my pre-pregnancy weight, but it really did a number on me.
Insurance shouldn't cover it unless it's reconstructive post mastectomy.
I'd budget 5-8k
