I know, I'm kind of a lost puppy right now - are you our country? Are you our country?
Anybody know anyone who's adopted from Ghana? It seems like programs have been around for at least a few years, but DH read that it's full of delays (ummm, what int'l adoption process isn't???); whatever he read advised against it being a first adoption experience. But we want any future adopted children to be from the same country, so we don't see that as an option.
FYI, Nicaragua is still our main choice, but the three-month stay means that any future adoptions would be very difficult. I mean, I'm not really thrilled about the thought of having a toddler and a baby in a foreign country for three months; I can't imagine having a kiddo, a toddler, and a baby in a foreign country for three months. Call me unadventurous, if you want.

Come home, baby A!
As a side--- my nanny is from Ghana and is wonderful! I know... no real connection but thought I'd share
Uganda changed their post-placement reporting requirements to:
1) 4 post-placement visits by a SW
2) updates every 6 months until LO is 18
3) appearing in court (or showing up at the courthouse) IN UGANDA every 5 years until LO is 18.
Hopefully they will realize soon that these requirements are way, way too extreme for most families (we simply can't afford to take the family there every 5 years).

Wow. Just wow.
Sorry your course is changing but wishing you luck!
Thanks, Bun! After the first week or two or serious pouting, I've now taken it to mean that our child is simply somewhere else.
Now, if you happen to have a crystal ball, I'd really love to borrow it.

Hey, don't know if this will help or not, but DH and I are in the process of adopting from Ghana right now. All our stateside paperwork is complete and our dossier was sent to Ghana last month. We are just waiting for a referral.
So far, the process has been super smooth and things have moved fairly quickly. We only started at the end of December. Our agency currently expects the time from dossier submission to completion to be between 10-12 months. The whole process is likely 12-24 months from start to finish.
We chose Ghana because of their stability and because of the relatively short in country travel requirements. We have 3 biological daughters who will be staying with family and friends while we travel, so a lengthy stay is just not a reality for us.
Feel free to ask any more questions. I'll try to answer them as best as I can.
Friend who brought home a little boy who was 18 mo. Now they are bringing home three of his cousins and a biological sister in the next few month.
I think every program can have delays sometimes those delays are related to how reputable your agency is and the relationships they have in Ghana.

I'm sorry, but I'm not entirely sure what YGPM means. If it has to do with a private message, I didn't get an alert. I double checked that my email is correct. Please feel free to resend.
