Is anyone GBS negative?

I've always assumed I'd be negative for this.. I have no idea why.. just thought I would. I was kinda upset when I found out I was positve but literally EVERY woman I've told about it said.. "Oh yeah.. I was positive to." I guess that makes me feel better but I'm starting to wonder if anyone is negative?

I was negative when I was tested at my 36 week appointment. They said if I haven't had my baby by 5/20, they will test me again. I guess it's something that can become positive at any time ...

I was the opposite of you, I thought for sure I would be positive but it turns out I'm negative. I feel like they may have tested too early but I'll have to ask at my appt. tomorrow.

True! I was tested at 35 wks 6 days and my Dr. said that if I go over 39 wks 6 days I need to get tested again.

I was positive a couple years ago (wasn't even pregnant; just thought I had a UTI and it turned out to be GBS), but I tested negative when my doctor did the culture a couple weeks ago. From what I was told when I did test positive, it's really not a big deal and just requires an IV of antibiotics when you go in to deliver.

I'm negative, but I think I read a stat somewhere saying something like 4 in 10 women are positive at any given time

Yeah, GBS is transient, it can come and go. I am proof of that. I was + with DD1. When I found I was pg with DD2 I was tested at the very beginning when I had my pap smear, turns out I was + again. Now, at my 36-37 week appt., my results came back negative. I thought for sure I would still be + but it turns out it went away and I am now GBS neg. Weird!

Like other PP have said, it really isn't something to worry too much about. You just have to make sure you get antibiotics because it can be bad if your baby catches it.

I find out tomorrow. I'm going in thinking that I am positive so it's not a let down. Either way I would have to get a IV lock because of a blood disorder so a dose of antibiotics, while note ideal, is no biggie. I've read that 40% test positive!

I'm negative, the nurse said if you've ever had strep throat that then you'll be GBS +...not sure if she is right though, I didn't think they were connected.

Yeah.........not connected at all. That nurse should probably get her info straight! Strep throat is Group A strep!

Um, haha, an OB nurse told you this? Not true - they aren't connected at all.

I've seen different numbers ranging from 10-40% for how common it is to test positive. I'll find out my results at my appointment today. Hoping I'm negative but won't stress about it if I'm positive.

i'm negative. i started taking acidolphilus around 30 weeks and have continued to do so. The build up of the good bacteria makes it harder for the strep strains to grow.

I've been negative with both pregnancies. Ive heard it's not a concern as long as you're on top of it and get antibiotics on time.

I'm negative with this baby. I was negative with #1, positive with #2, and now negative again. Don't be upset, it's really NBD if you're positive. Both you and baby will be fine.
