While I never intended on weaning exactly at one year, it would appear that Abbey is self weaning anyhow. I'm totally okay with it, since it's on her own terms. I've also noticed I'm losing a little more weight which is kind of nice right before our trip!
Basically we're doing the "don't offer, don't refuse" method and she pretty much never asks for it outside of wakeups and bedtime. I'd been offering it before her naps until this week but if she never saw the boobs, she wouldn't have missed them. Today I actually FORGOT to offer it to her at nap times and so she's only nursed twice today! But, she went to town before bed lol
I didn't want to switch her to WCM before one year since I want to wait for the OK from her pedi, and also because we're going to England in two weeks. I started giving her formula about 2 weeks ago. I wanted to have her on formula in the day so that my parents and grandparents can feed her if DH and I want to take our own mini day-trips a couple days. She's taken to the formula like a champ and I think when we get back I will slowly mix in some milk.
I want to keep nursing at least until we get back as I'm thinking it will help to comfort her on the plane or just anytime she's feeling "homesick". But since we're coming back exactlly on her bday (June 1st) I don't foresee me nursing much longer after that...probably only nights.
Anyone other mommy's getting ready or already started weaning for the first birthday (or around there)
Re: Officially weaning....anyone else?
yup. We're working on it - I never planned on BFing past 6 months but it was going so well that we continued. With his first b-day coming up and I can't be BF'ing while cycling through for baby #2 we've started the weaning process.
I had been over-pumping for about 2 months so we have plenty of BM in the freezer and I'm slowly cutting back, I went from 3 pumps and 3 nursings a day to 2 pumps and 1 nurse. And once DS accepts milk from his sippy I'll cut out another one. Our pedi gave me the ok to start mixing WCM in with the BM at the 11 month mark so that's what we're going to do.
Good luck!
