Is this my chance to cut a feeding?

I'm slowing starting to wean DD to have some time between nursing her and the new one but she's still been BFing about 3 times a day and taking about 10-14 oz of formula over 2 bottles. Her normal schedule is to eat (drink) after each sleep of the day - first thing in the morning, after her morning and afternoon naps, and then once again before bed. Somehow an extra one gets thrown in there sometimes. Well, she woke up from her afternoon nap almost a half hour ago now and has not shown any desire to eat yet. So I'm wondering if I could just skip this usual feed and give her dinner soon and start to get more towards a breakfast/lunch/bed routine and then hopefully soon just a breakfast/bed routine for BFing. Anyone else have plans to get down to just twice a day? Anyone already there? The pedi (and many other people) say that at this point, BFing is more about the mom's feelings than LO's but DD still seems pretty attached to it, especially in the morning so I'm anticipating some difficulty with weaning.

Re: Is this my chance to cut a feeding?

  • Just in the last week or so, I've been unable to get him to nurse at all after his afternoon nap.  I've been giving a straw sippy with formula, and he's been taking some of it.  Today, he coudln't care less.  He may have taken one ounce.  So, I think we're officially down to three times a day.  I'm sure he'll drop the other middle-of-the-day feeding within the next couple weeks, and we'll be down to morning/before bed by a year.  Plan to wean completely shortly after that -- he would honestly drop all feedings right now if I let him.
