Has anyone had to take morphine after their CS? I took Percoset after my CS with DS 1, but have since become allergic to it along with hydrocodone, OxyContin, tramidol. It seems like Morphine is my only option for pain medicine. I've never taken it before and even though I know it will be a low dose, it makes me a little nervous. Morphine just sounds so serious. I don't want to feel all drugged afterwards so I was just hoping someone else had had this experience and could share. Thanks!
Re: Morphine?
I hadn't had morphine after a cs, but I have had morphine before. That is one serious drug. They gave me a little dose after my cervadil was placed with DD. It made me a little sleepy and really dizzy, I couldn't sit all the way up.
I also had morphine when I broke my back, but that was a much higher dose. I actually had an iv with one of the dispenser buttons so I could get it when ever I wanted (within a certain time frame.)
Yep! I had a general anastesia c-section so I didn't have an epi or spinal. (it was a crash section after going completely natural to complete and starting to push, ao there wasn't time to mess around with the setting an epidural)It was on a patient controlled administration pump, so I was able to only get it when I absolutely needed it as opposed to a constant drip. I had it for I think 24 hours and then they just switched to toradol through my saline locked IV and I got 2 doses of that for the second 24 hours and then I did lortab for the next 24 hours until I left the hospital and once I was home I wanted nothing to do with narcotics (actually I fought taking any medicine, but my husband insisted) so I took naproxen of and on for the first 2 weeks, but after 2 weeks I didn't take anything.
I don't think the morphine drip was bad, but like I said I hit it very infrequently I know at the beginning when they first set it I could get two booster doses and I declined those and I know when they came into count how many I had taken they were always surprised by how little I had pressed the button. I always made sure to press it before them would come in and push on my belly to make sure my uterus was contracting because that was unbelievably painful.
They gave me it sometime during the CS I believe. It made me itch insanely (my face was stratched up) and benedryl did nothing to stop it. I also had a really hazy experience with it - after I got to my room I was in and out and barely remember a thing.
My CS was at 3:30pm and it was late when I actually came around fully. I just recently asked my DH and mom what all happened after I got back to the room because I only remember getting there (after recovery), seeing them hold DD, and that's it until I came to much later.
Pain wise - I didn't feel a thing until it wore off.
I definitely had that haze too. I was awake enough to meet DS for about two seconds before I completely zonked out. Waking up again was the weirdest thing ever.
The Nest/Bump sucks and won't let me change my location. I'm in Arkansas, not Florida.
