Movie for outdoor movie party

For a soon to be 8 year old. Coed party, a few younger {5,6,7} siblings of friends and a few older {upcoming 4th and 5th grade would be the oldest probably.

I need suggestions. I'm thinking about putting it to a vote when the kids get there, letting them put a admission ticket in a bowl in front of the movie they want to see. But I need two or three choices for that and I'm out of ideas. I can't ask DD since it'll be a surprise!

  • We actually went to see Mr. Popper's Penguins for her birthday last year. Dinner and a movie. She really likes movies. :)

  • I second The Muppets.  If you buy the extended features one at Target there is also an extra disc with several original Muppet shows that are hilarious also.  We loved it.

  • What fun! I think Mr. Popper or the Muppets would be great choices!

  • No suggestions as my kids aren't really old enough for movies yet, but I love your fish bowl voting idea.  It sounds like a fun party!

I thought about doing the old school Charlie and Choc. Factory. I would love to show something classic, like Wizard of Oz.

  • Old School Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sounds good. What about one of the original Muppets movies, since the Muppets are on a comeback these days? I don't know the children that are coming to the party, but the Wizard of Oz has always creeped me out a bit.

You might be right about WOO...Lil's not afraid of much.

  • Somebody mentioned The Goonies on my other board...what do y'all think?

There are some pervy references...  remember the statue?  The penis and scrotum broke off, and the boys talk about that being his mom's favorite part.

There's quite a bit of teenage swearing...  It's DH's fave movie, and we watch it a lot.

I think they are still a bit young for the Goonies but I love the old school Willy Wonka movie idea. Or, what about The Sandlot? Only one curse word in it at the end if I remember correctly.

Meant to add that if you show The Sandlot in addition to theatre candy you could do baseball theme food, hotdogs and popcorn. That's pretty kid friendly. I think this party sounds like so much fun!

Oh I remember it...we watch it all the time. DD's seen it a million times. She's never really noticed those parts. I've noticed that adults notice the bad parts a lot more than kids do...in all sorts of movies.
