DH and I have 2 coming home outfits for LO. We got one size newborn and one size 0-3 months because we weren't sure what he would fit in. Now, with what the doctors are saying about him only being 5 1/2 lbs if I go full term because of how small he's measuring, and I'm not sure on length but I know that's measuring small too, if we should get a preemie outfit for back up? What would you ladies do?

    DS also looks like he's going to be on the small side but I'm not going to buy any preemie outfits.  We have a ton of NB white onsies that were given to us and they look a lot smaller than his other NB outfits we got so hopefully DS will fit i those if he is on the smaller side.

    It wouldn't hurt to take a premie outfit.  We did last time and will again.  It depends on the brand and how much the sizes vary too.  My DS was born a week before his due date and was 7 pounds 5 ounces.  Even some of his newborn outfits were swimming on him in the very beginning.  Even with their weight it will vary though, just the way things fit different babies.

    If he's expected to be that small (or thereabouts), I'd probably bring a preemie outfit and the newborn outfit, but skip the 0-3 month outfit. Most newborns, even those in the 8-9 lb range, fit newborn size within the first week.

    He will probably fit into the preemie better than a newborn and for sure a 0-3 will be too big.  It's looking like ours will be on the fence also, they are measuring close to 6lbs and are now expected to be here next week so I'm taking preemie outfits and newborns and am going to see which fits better.

    I accidentally bought a preemie outfit (the hanger said newborn, but I didn't check the actual item) so I will bring that. DD1 was almost 8 pounds but she was still swimming in size newborn clothes. I'd go ahead and bring one of each size.

    I would wait and see. At my appt last week, DD was estimated to be 4 pds 14oz. In the 17th percentile for weight. They told me I should probably get some preemie clothes and that she would be small.

    Today they estimated her at 6 pds. 2 ounces. She was in the 34th percentile. I was so concerned last week and not so much now.

    I've had an ultrasound every week since week 16 and he was always consistently a week small. Last ultrasound he fell back to 2 weeks small, so now I have to go in every week for NSTs and if they show anything I'll have to be induced early, but I suppose he could have a late growth spurt. They did say it could be genetic though since both my mom and I were only around 5 lbs when we were born, so I don't think their estimate will be off by much
