  • Eh... no.

I don't want my DH near my vagina while giving birth and he agrees...

We've talked about H catching baby since we're having a water birth but said we'd see how he feels in the heat of the moment.  And we'd still have our MW and asst MW present, obviously.

    But, animal delivery though.

That was one of my favorite days in the history of the bump.

I bow down to MSC for bringing it back.

Yeah, I don't see the coorelation.  I might feel like a cow for those first few feeding frenzies but definitely not while birthing haha.

He's only allowed to deliver the baby if he wears shoulder length rubber gloves and reaches up there and pulls the baby out, just like a real farmer.

    BAAHAHAHAHA! YES!

  • Lol one of my husbands biggest fears (along with the other firefighters) is that they'll be called out to a medical aid to assist in a delivery.

I hope this guy does the long sleeve rubber gloved thing too. Will he pull baby out by the feet or head? Will be leave the child on the floor in a stack of hay and urine for authenticity?

This is pretty much how we're approaching it, too.  DH just saw baby kittens being born for the first time a little over a month ago, so hopefully he got the freaking out over the gory stuff done then.

  • I remember that post from when I was lurking when pregnant with DD.  That shiz was crazy!

  • I'd gladly let my DH deliver....in a hospital with the dr right next to him. DH is a nurse and has been through one delivery with me and seen another.

  • As long as he brings the pulling chains used in calving, I don't see a problem with it.

    I would certainly hope so!

I would love to know where this poster is today.

    Dude, baby kittehs =/=childbirth.

I agree on this, too.  My H was front and center when my son was born so he's definitely witnessed it before.  I think he was too emotional, shocked, scared, etc. to participate much the first time around other than coaching me and being an amazing support system (he was even scared to cut the cord but ended up pulling it together to do it).  This time the atmosphere will be a lot different and he has more experience under his belt so we said we'd leave the option open to him.  BTW - DH is a farm kid and this was still his reaction to childbirth.  Animal birth in general =/= your own child coming into the world >.<

Anakat - not saying your H won't be able to keep it together, just saying he might not want to consider that an equal comparison.

No, no. You are fine. I was saying her BF wasn't a nurse so he had no busines being all up in her stuff.

Go Natural or Go Home! Moooooooooooo

  • Very entertaining!  Thanks! Though it was very long.

I read in her bio that she is pregnant again and due in June 2012. I wonder if he ended up delivering the first baby?

I needed this today. This kid has my head spinning and my stomach churning today. I needed a laugh. Big Smile

Indifferent My DH and I discussed him helping, but he's a nurse and was an Army medic. Not a farmer...

He isnt qualified unless he has delivered some form of farm animal. Those are the rules, sorry.
  • Honestly don't know what the big deal is. I delivered with a midwife in a hospital and she asked DH if he wanted to reach down and help catch her. He didn't because he's pretty squeamish, but would have thought it was cool if he did.

Agreed.  I think it's way off to think "hey, if you've seen one species birth, you've seen them all" and think you can help your wife deliver unassisted, but if there's a midwife right there, I'm all for DH or me catching LO.

From what I read (and I only went through the first page so I missed a lot) she never wanted to go unassisted.  She planned on being in a hospital or at home with a MW attending.

I wasn't around back then so thanks for re-posting!  There is no way that anyone is going near my vadge that doesn't need to be there for medical reasons.  And I don't trust DH to catch our baby Indifferent

  • LOL! I've always been curious about the farm animals comments that have floated around here. Thanks for the link!

My DH caught our son. It was kind of an in the moment thing. Both of us thought we'd want him next to my head. He wound up being so invested in the labor and delivery process that he really didn't care what things looked like and asked our doctor if he could catch. I'm thankful that my doctor agreed since it's a wonderful memory for both my DH and I. It has not impacted his interest in sex or sexual things one iota! But catching baby =/= delivering the baby. My Dr. was there and dealing with the entire medical side of my son's delivery.
