3rd Trimester

Numbness in legs

So for over a month now, I've had numbness in both of my thighs if I stand or walk for more than about 10 minutes. Once I sit down my thighs will go cold and tingly and then eventually go back to normal. Two doctors in my practice have told me that this is normal, yada yada, and to avoid standing or walking when possible.  Yeah, that's not really all that possible!

Anyone else have this problem? If so, what do you do for relief? TIA

Re: Numbness in legs

  • I've had this in my right leg only since about 26 weeks and it's gotten progressively worse.  For me, it happens when I walk too fast all of a sudden.  I've tried to power through it, keep walking, etc. but the only thing that alleviates it is to stop moving and wait for it to go away.  Makes me feel pretty silly just standing in the middle of a parking lot or store!  My Dr also said its totally normal, albeit annoying, and it will go away after baby is born.  Has to do with swelling and nerves and all that good stuff.  Sorry I don't have any other suggestions but I'm dealing with the same thing!

  • Yes, I am having the same issue. Sometimes I can barely walk. Doc says its because baby is on a nerve and to lay on my side when possible. Of course its not possible when I'm at work. Stick out tongue I usually just try to stretch my legs and rub them when possible, and sometimes it brings them back to "life." Good luck!

  • I haven't had complete numbness, but I have had the tingly feeling down my legs and in to my feet on and off. I'm 36 weeks today and have been dealing with that since my baby bump started popping out. The baby is hitting a nerve and getting comfy. I have yet to find total relief other than laying on the opposite side and trying to get my LO to move. Just remember it's all worth it in the end. Good luck!
  • Mine's been in my left foot and outer calf any time I stand too long.  I've been dealing with for about 20 weeks now.
