So I've made the decision to have a natural birth and now need some resources to help prepare me to actually follow thru with it! Anybody know of any good books or DVD's I can use to prepare myself mentally for this task!
Of course the go-to standard is Ina May Gaskin's "Guide to Childbirth" ... this is super informative and gives you the lay of the land. A great place to start if you haven't already and a must-read for anyone giving birth, especially naturally. She also has a list of resources at the back with recommendations for other books and videos.
I have also read "A Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way," since we are going to give the Bradley method a go ... this is the "husband-coached" labor that you may have heard of. Helpful if your partner reads it too (and it is quick and easy ... lots of pics), but I have been giving mine summaries of the chapters, so that's worked!
My yoga teacher recommended "Birth Skills," which I have started ... it's kind of nice to have some practical and go-to "skills" in your back pocket to call upon, but I've found this book to overlap a fair amount with the others (though if you have the time, every bit of reassurance and confidence-boosting helps!).
Lastly, I cannot express how inspiring Peggy Vincent's "Babycatcher" memoir was for me! This is not a how-to guide, but rather a chronicle of a home birth nurse midwife's career catching babies ... she is a superb story teller, and the birth stories are so motivating and beautiful ... I laughed and cried throughout the whole book and now recommend it to all my pregnant friends. A quick and easy read that you can have on the bedside table next to all the other more "hardcore" birth books!

Hope this helps and happy reading!
There's a reading list in the unofficial FAQ in my siggy.
I liked "The Birth Partner" for both of us, and the Lamaze handbook was pretty good too.
