Gender Neutral Nurseries

We are finally in contract on a new house! Yay!  Buh bye 2 bedroom condo!  Anyway, we want to have it painted before we move in.  Since I'm team green I was thinking of doing either 1)  light gray paint and add in pinks or dark blues/reds once baby arrives 2) very light shade of blue and also doing the same as above adding in pinks or dark blues/reds if a boy.

Any suggestions/opinions?  I'm trying to stay away from yellows/greens this time around.

Re: Gender Neutral Nurseries

  • I think both of those sound great.  We're going to find out the sex, but are going to have a gender neutral nursery anyway, just because too much pink gives me hives.  I will say that gray is very in right now, and you'll be able to find a lot of bedding with gray as a major color.  I think Pottery Barn Kids has a gray and yellow bedding set right now.  I like blue though, too.  There's a girl on Second Tri who is doing a blue nursery for a girl and it sounds gorgeous!  In short, I have no way of helping you make a decision one way or the other.  Smile

  • Our LO will be sharing a room with my DD, so we're planning a gender neutral nursery. If it turns out that we're having another girl, I'll stick to the same plan since I love it so much. We're going with light aqua walls, with black, white, red, and gold accents. This is my inspiration room. I think it will be perfect for a boy and a girl or two girls.

There is tons on inspiration on Pintrest. I think it's pretty easy these days to do a gender neutral nursery. Like the grey wall idea and adding accents later.

I've pinned so much it makes my head spin!  Would you do white or dark furniture with light blue or light gray?  I may hold off and not buy furniture until after arrival. I feel like white furniture should be for a girl.  Not sure why I have that in my head.

  • We are expecting a boy and a girl, so we are planning a gender neutral nursery. Right now, I'm thinking light grey walls with aqua, white, and orange. I am not a fan of pastels, so it has been a little tricky to find pics for inspiration. I love hot pink and orange in girls' rooms, but I think I'll incorporate some more feminine prints on baby girl's side to separate the areas. I ADORE projectnursery.com! I've been a pinning fool thanks to that site!

  • Actually I have a really pretty yellow curtain I had made on Etsy for DD's room that I took down so maybe I'll do gray and then I can use the yellow stuff until baby is born.

  • Before we found out DS was a boy, I had already decided on Behrs Fountain Spout, it's a tealish blue and we ended up doing a cantelope orange for the accent.  If he had been a girl I was going to add yellow's and greys, so I definately think you can do a pale blue and make it either girly or boyish with the accent colors you use.

  • I saw some cute orange gender neutral nursery ideas.  Maybe that's another color you could consider?  It looks pretty and fun with pink if you end up with a girl, or with blue/grey/brown for a boy.  Oh decorating!  Endless possibilitiesBig Smile

  • Gray! That's what I'm doing too. But more because I like gray...and we're taking advantage of the Behr Paint Sale on memorial day weekend at Home Depot, and we don't know if we're team pink or blue by then yet :)

We're going w/a Winnie the Pooh theme.  Tan or pale yellow walls (Sorry it falls into your "no yellow this round") One b/c it's gender neutral (we are actually finding out in a week if LO cooperates) and two b/c I'm a HUGE Tigger lover and have a crap load of Tigger stuff that will finally have a home (for a little while at least).

  • We're doing white furniture regardless of the sex.  The walls will be a very light grey and we're doing white wainscoting.  I really like yellow for the accents, but depending on the sex, I may change my mind and do blue/green for a boy or something more girly for a girl.  Here are a few of my inspiration photos:

    grey and blue

    grey and yellow

    grey and pink

I like the ideas of greys and pinks - but that could be because we are all baby boy blue over here :)

  • I'm going GN as well, and want to do dark woods with pops of bright colors--mostly primary colors like blue, red and yellow--and am going with a classic modern meets vintage look.

    That's today at least. =/
