Trouble TTC

Update and a question...

Hey Ladies,

I still am not sure how many people will recognize me, but I'll post my update for anyone who does...

We are still moving forward with IVF, right now we're just finishing up some blood work and DH has to have an ultrasound and another detailed SA the very beginning of June. They found a grade 3 varicocele on his left side, and our RE mentioned a repair possibly, however after reading a lot about the repair surgery I don't have a lot of hope it will do anything.

Anyways, onto my question... I'm scheduled to go for an ultrasound on CD 3-5 of my next cycle. This is for Antral follicular count to see what my reserve is. I'm pretty nervous for this (because I'm assuming it will be internal). I have pretty heavy AF and I'm afraid the U/S tech being completely grossed out.... Anyone have this done, advice??

  • Thanks, I thought this was called a baseline. My RE never refers to anything the same way everyone here does.... Always leaves me wondering, and I end up asking questions and feel stupid..

  • tombomb is right- they are so used to it, it does not even bother them one bit! I have gone almost every cycle for cd 3 monitoring, and they don't even flinch. Just an extra pad under you for extra protection.

  • CD3 appointments are standard for cycling and I think most women have more than 2 days of bleeding. The others are right - don't worry about it, they're used to it.

  • When I was first told by my PA that she would be doing an ultrasound on CD 3, I looked at her and said, "You do know that this is likely to be rather messy, right?" She laughed a little and said, yes, she was used to it. Once I did it, it really wasn't as big of a deal as I thought it would be.

    Good luck!

Yes, I just got off the phone and after a very confusing conversation with the U/S department it's on the 30th. I don't know why everyone has to play the blame game when it comes to who I should talk to.. Oh well, appointment is mine now.

Thanks everyone for the confidence.. What are the normal results for a CD 3 u/s?

    Of course I recognize you!

A perfect result for an antral follicle count at your age is about 20-30 or 10-15 on each side.  As long as its 16 or more, that's still very good and no need to worry. Under 10 is where it gets pretty bad.

They also check to make sure you have no cysts, your follicles are small, and your lining is thin. Good luck!
