Are these contractions?

So my stomach keeps getting hard and hurts...like my actual belly hurts.  The baby is still so high, so I don't think m in labor, but is this what a contraction is?

    Sounds like the typical braxton hicks contractions to me

    Sounds like BH. With DS, I expected a conraction to feel like a BH and it didn't at all for me. It was pain with not as much tightening.

    This is happening a lot to me, too.  Since I've dropped it's much more comfortable - the tightening was so bad it hurt to breathe.  My abdomen/stomach gets so tight it feels really sore and aches, even once it passes.
