Hey everyone. ![]()
I was hoping some of you fellow parents could help me by recommending the finger foods you feed your LO.
My LO just turned a year old & his diet currently consist of breastfeeding, real milk, pedialyte with water, jar fruits & veggies, and the occasional table food with us.
He is in the process of weaning from breastfeeding to real milk. But I am also trying to get him to eat more finger food. He loves to eat real food with us. He currently eats cheerios or anything I give him on my plate that is appropriate like mashed potatoes, beans, very small pieces of chicken, etc. The problem is I am trying to get him more of a variety that he can eat on his own in his highchair. I tried the Gerber finger foods and graduate plates such as the ravioli and diced carrots but he doesn't like them.
He currently has a tummy problem so he cant have many things such as mashed potatoes that will make constipation worse. I want to encourage healthy habits because we don't want him eating junk food when hes older. I prefer non-processed food, such as no hot dogs unless they are all beef, etc.
So if you could please let me know any ideas or finger food that your LO loves Thanks ![]()
Re: Recommend your LO's finger foods
As in bell peppers? I love those but wasn't sure if he could have them or not yet. Thanks y'all
if we eat it, she eats it! We just cut up whatever meats/veggies we're eating and give her some.
Our go-tos just for her are cut up chicken/pork/fish/turkey, etc, steamed veggies (squash, broccoli, green beans, asparagus, bell peppers, carrots, anything really!) cut up fruit (strawberries, blueberries, oranges, steamed apples, pears), beans, toast with hummus, avocado, apple butter, peanut butter. She also loves shredded cheese and cottage cheese, but I wasn't sure if you could do dairy.
My favorite quick finger food incorporated on DD's meal are frozen veggies.
What I do is I buy organic frozen veggies at whole foods and mix it up every day with chicken, meat, whatever else she is eating.
So I get a bag of brocolli, the bag that comes with corn, peas, green beans and carrots in it, the bag of red and green bell peppers, and a bag of zuchinni. That way I don't have to worry about veggies spoiling and I can give her a variety. Of course, I do give her fresh veggies too like sweet potato, tomatoes, etc.
I guess you can do the same thing for fruits, but for some reason I always have a variety of fresh fruit in my house (I'm a fruit lover), so I have no need to buy them frozen.
For your LO constipation problem I recommend papaya and pears you can puree them too if he likes purees better. Prune puree is good too and Kefir for constipation.

finger foods DS eats the most are: avocado (I just slice it into chunks), all sorts of fruit (favorites are blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, bananas and cantaloupe), sweet potato chunks, organic cheerios once in a while, pancakes, peas
you could also do cheese
Eggo whole wheat waffles, mandarin oranges(from a cup), blueberries, strawberries, baby goldfish, chic peas, shredded cheese, ground chicken/turkey, broccoli, beans, brussel sprouts, asparagus, cheesy rice.
LO eats almost anything we do unless the food is too squishy to pick up off the table. We stopped purees at 7 mo or so b/c LO just wouldn't eat them.

She's been eating whatever we eat since 9 months.
