Schedule troubles?

Anyone else having them? I can't seem to get her on any kind of schedule. We have a pretty set nighttime routine and that's about it. I've tried everything, letting her lead me, etc and nothing is working. She takes about one decent nap a day and then off and on the rest of the day if I'm lucky, which usually results in her being so tired that she completely melts down near the end of the night. And to top it off, this past week she won't even let me rock her to sleep for naps and won't take her pacifier. I just end up swaddling her and putting her in her crib and having to leave the room. Any tips? Or at least tell me I'm not the only one lol.

Re: Schedule troubles?

  • We have no schedule.  K takes naps when she wants to, but only for my mom or dad.  For me she usually only naps for 20-30 min in my arms.  If I move her or put her down she's awake within minutes.  I BF on demand so she eats when she wants during the day.  At night she goes down between 8 and 9, although some nights it's later.  She wakes up between 1 and 2 to eat, and again between 4 and 5 before waking for the day around 7.

  • I have DD do restful times if it is map time and she isn't sleeping. No toys or stimulation. Just snuggling and quiet time. I have found that this encourages nap time. There are ways to encourage a schedule without resorting to CIO. But I feel like a little crying is more except able now that she is a little older. I liked something the super nanny does. You put them down, then go in after 5 min. And tuck them back in and say I love you. Then go back after 10,15 and 20 minutes. If by that point she is still crying I will get her. Honestly she usually only lasts 6-7 minutes.

I could have written this! We were having some luck with the system where you put them down for a nap 2 hours after they last woke up, but this stopped working. The last few days, she's fought off naps for 6 hours after she gets up for the day, being grumpy the whole time, then has a major meltdown and then takes a long nap. Sleep is lovely, child, cozy up and snooze already!
