how did mother's in the past live without???

my mom & mother-in-law are always commented on how they never had any of the cool gadgets & things we have for our babies & there are certain items i don't know how i'd live without....feel free to add to the list:

-electric double breast pump. my mom used a manual pump with me & i'm not sure if my MIL used anything. i can't imagine having to manually express milk

-dishwasher/microwave sterlizer. again can't imagine having to hand-wash all the bottles & pump parts everyday. well i can imagine but just would never want to do it!

-video monitor- way to anxious/crazy to ever let my baby sleep in the other room without being able to see her

lol I use a manual pump, hand wash every thing, and do not have a video monitor.

I dont know what I would do with out glow worm even though I hate the thing.

I have the electric double breast pump, but not the other two. Actually, I do have a dishwasher, but I hand wash the bottles (only 3 a day). I get by just fine! However, I co-sleep so I don't even use the regular sound monitor I have.

I don't think I could get by without my baby carriers! Moby when he was tiny, and now the Ergo.

haha, we don't have a video monitor (I didn't really want one) and I live just fine!  I also hand wash my pump parts and bottles every day, really not a big deal.

I do have a double electric breast pump though - I think I'd hate a manual one!

AMEN SISTA!  This thing has saved me numerous times.  Everytime my mom comes over she says how lucky I am for that thing.  She said when my brother was a baby that he LOVED his swing and it was a crank swing and she said everytime she had to re-rcrank it that he would wake up. Plus it didnt last very long, so she always had me, her 3 year old "big helper" to wind it for her. LOL

  • Take out. It is so handy to be able to opt for take out dinner when we are beat. Also, drive through coffee!

Honestly, my favorite convenience is the internet.  You can always look up what's wrong with your baby and get a good idea on how to fix it.  And, it's a good sanity check as you can google "runny baby poop" and find that it's totally normal without running to the pedi every other day..

    I agree!

  • Ditto to the Internet. I also know that a few generations ago BFing was so looked down upon that it was almost eradicated. I think that NIP is probably easier. My MIL says that she had to nurse behind locked doors at family functions and couldnt be away from home very long in case she had to nurse. God bless the Hooter Hider.

  • The NoseFrida!  I'm addicted to that thing!

I also agree with the internet, even now I'll ask my mom something (baby related or not) and she always asks "what's the internet say"?

  • Honestly, I don't rely on anything that wasn't available back in the day.

One thing that I'm glad I have is the ability to take many, many pics of DS on my phone and view them instantly.   I'm addicted to taking pictures of him!
