One thing I don't think necessarily comes out loud and clear in the blog post is that there are probably still times where it's just not possible to do immediate skin-to-skin, maybe the baby truly does need to be whisked away to be helped out. But I think it's good for people to know that in many cases it is an option.
I, too, didn't get to hold my first until she was 5 minutes old and swaddled, and I even had a normal unmedicated hospital birth. There was meconium in the amniotic fluid so they took her across the room immediately as a precaution to check. It bothers me too. I feel they could have checked her on me while we were skin-to-skin without prematurely cutting the cord.
