Planetbox??? Anyone have one for their DS/DD?

So, DS starts preschool in the fall but will be attending a summer camp there next month and will be staying for lunch.  He's never been to daycare, so we don't have a lunch box.  I came across the Planetbox and it seems like such an awesome product.  Very expensive, but I can justify spending the money once upfront considering it will be saving plenty of money (and the environment!) throughout its use.  Anyone have one for their child?  Would you recommend it?  I know a lot of people use a Bento syle laptop lunch system, but I honestly cannot see me cleaning individual containers each day or DS opening/closing them correctly.  I like the "lunch tray" idea much better.

  • I bought one for my sister and she loves it (but she's a grown-up). it's very sturdy.

I have a friend that has them for her two boys and she loves it.

  • I have a Planet Box and a Laptop Lunchbox.  I like them both, but like the metal better.  They're both easy to clean - I just throw the containers from the Laptop Lunchbox in the dishwasher (I have 2 of those, so can rotate).  DD likes the Planet Box better and I definitely think it was worth the money.
  • These look really cool.  I wonder if they have staying power for older kids?  Do older kids use lunchboxes?  If we were to purchase one, I'd want it to last for a LONG time.  I know by around 6th grade, I kept "losing" my lunchbox so that I'd have to use a paper bag like everyone else.
