Another Swim Diaper Question

What will you use this summer?

Last summer we just used the Huggies Little Swimmers, but with my upcoming beach/pool vacation, I'm tempted to buy a few of the reusable diapers. What do you use? Pros? Cons?

Re: Another Swim Diaper Question

  • We swim 2-3x/week throughout the summer, so buying disposable swim diapers would be insane. We use a Bummis Swimmi swim diaper on DS. And then I put swim trunks over it. Last year we had a Swimmi and another swim diaper that pulled up (maybe Speedo?). Well, he pooped in the pull-up diaper and it was TERRIBLE. I had to pull the diaper down to get it off of him, which meant poop on his legs and stuff. So from now on, all I'll use is the Swimmi.

  • We also used the Bummies Swim diapers last year.  They worked great!  I'll be buying a few for this season (in a larger size) since her last year ones are too small.  We cloth diaper so this is just second nature.  If you're worried about washing them, I'd recommend just doing it in the sink with some dish soap (like blue dawn) but not using something with hand lotion or anything added in in.

  • Thanks! I think I'll definitely be getting one/two of them!

What size would you recommend? Miles is about 25 lbs...

  • Another vote for bummis swimmi  diaper! We do weekly swim lessons on top of splash pads and pool time planned for this summer. we did buy a cheapie $5 swim diaper at Walmart I think the brand is Op but it is the pull up kind so I only use it if he has recently pooped or as a backup in case he poops in the bummis one.

A is between 25-27 pounds I think we have the large. Amazon had the sizes and corresponding weights with  the diaper I think and he has plenty of room to grow. The Velcro tabs cross over a little if you need a tighter waist which is what we do since he is on the lower end of the weight.

  • We have one Swimmi and one Monkeez. I slightly preferred the Monkeez because it was one size fits all and used snaps. But I'm pretty sure DS will still fit the Swimmi for one more summer, so we're ok there. Both work just fine.

We used the iPlay swim diaper (the white one with snaps down the side) and it was great!

  • We use Softbums cloth diapers - so we can just use the covers without the inserts as a swim diaper. And washing them is just second natures, so not a big deal.

  • We use the One Step Ahead re-usable diaper.  I use that as his swimsuit too because they are super cute.  I use the flip covers with no insert as my backup.  I bought him 6-12 months for last summer and they were awesome.  I just purchased some in 24 months for this summer.  O is about 26lbs.

Since I don't cloth diaper, I have a few questions.  When you buy this swim diaper, do you just use what they send to you?  Or do you need something else to go inside of them (the cloth diaper part?) I guess what I'm asking is, is this a whole diaper or just a diaper cover?

Ooh, also, since A is just under 21 pounds, do you think Medium or Large would be better?

Go for a large. They can be cinched down smaller but if you get a size that's too small, it won't work. DS wears an L and he's 28 pounds.

  • We use iPlay bathing suits with built in swim diapers. I love them. We've been using them since we started taking her to the pool. She has never once pooped in them though as she's a very private pooper and generally refuses to go at daycare either unless she REALLY needs to.

You just need the diaper. No need to add anything. It is like a cover, it doesnt absorb anything it just contains it. If he has skinny legs I would go witht he meduim. It'll fit him through out the summer.

We use the Imse Vimse swim diapers, they have tank tops that match the bottoms, so they are perfect for girls. But I would probably get one for a boy too if we have one in the future. The less skin exposed to the sun the better.
