Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

LOs bedtime?

What time does your little one go to bed?  Wake up?  If your LO goes to bed late have you tried to put them on a earlier schedule?

Cooper goes to bed 9:30-10 and wakes up usually 9:30-10.  H and I talked about trying an earlier bed time AGAIN.  We have failed in the past so if anyone has any tips I would appreciate it.

Re: LOs bedtime?

  • Bedtime around 7, up between 6-7. I'm trying to push bedtime back to about 7:30.

  • Since DS is in a toddler bed, he wakes up way earlier than he used to. He goes to bed at 8 (usually on the dot) and wakes up around 6, sometimes 5:30, sometimes 6:30. If he goes to bed later, that usually doesn't make a difference except he'll get up at least at 630, if not 7. Most of the time we're in bed by 10 so keeping him up til then is not an option. If we could, we would because it would mean sleeping in later.

  • AB goes down at 7:30, and we're pretty adamant about it.  After a whole day with her by myself, I need the adult time and I need time to sit and do nothing, watch TV, and totally space out.  She USED to get up at 7:30 like clockwork, but lately I'm happy if she stays down until 7.  Monday was 6:30, yesterday was 6:20, today was like 6:50.

I'd try moving his schedule gradually, maybe 15-20 minute intervals.  And I know it's the biggest sin of baby sleep, but I'd start waking him earlier (again, gradually) to see if you can adjust at both ends.

  • DS has always been an early riser. We've never been able to get him to sleep past 630 or 7, no matter what time he goes to bed. That being said, he is usually in bed no later than 830.

  • It varies.  Abby goes down between 7 and 9 and gets up anywhere from 6-8.

MIne go to bed between 7-7:30 and wake up between 7-8am
  • It's usually 9 before DD is in bed.  We start the bedtime routine at 8, but she's been taking a while to go down lately.  I get her up at 7 on weekday mornings, and on the weekends she'll sleep in till 8-9.

I'd maybe just try moving his bedtime REALLY gradually.  Like one night 5 minutes earlier, do that for a few nights, then another 5 minutes earlier, and so on.

  • We put E to sleep around 7 - 7:30 and he sleeps until 8:30 - 9:00.  He also takes a 2 - 2.5 hour nap during the day.

He is a really great sleeper though - he has been giving us 10 - 12 hours at night since 4 months old.

  • He goes down by 7pm and I wake him at 6:45am on weekdays.  He will sleep until 7-7:15 on weekends.

Before I went back to work (at 13 mos) he was going to bed later, waking later.  Like others suggested, we moved his bedtime by 15-20 mins at a time. Make sure to wake him 15-20mis earlier the next morning.

If your LO is used to falling asleep when it's dark, you might try blackout curtains.

  • We put DS in his crib around 7:45 and he generally seems to fall asleep around 8:15 or so. I don't have a whole lot of advice, other than shifting his nap. DS has always gone to bed a little earlier - this current bedtime is actually a little later than when he used to go down at < 18 months.

ETA: He wakes up sometime during the 6:00 hour.

  • I enforce a 7:00 bedtime for my DD and an 8:00 bedtime for my DS because I seriously need an hour or two of downtime at night before I go to bed. I would go crazy if I had kids up until 10pm.  They wakeup between 6:30 and 7 in the morning.

If you want him to go to bed earlier you should start waking him up earlier in the morning. It might take a week or two, but his body will naturally adapt and he will start going to bed earlier.

  • Bedtime is about 9:45 p.m.  DD usually wakes up around 8:00 a.m.  I found that trying to make her go to sleep earlier just led to fussing until she fell asleep at 9:45.

My DD goes down between 7:30-8 (it used to be 7 before DST), and usually wakes up for the day around 8.

  • DS goes to bed anytime between 8-8:45pm.  He wakes up anywhere from 7-9am.

He takes about a 2 hour nap everyday.

  • We put B to bed e ery night no matter what at 8. He goes to sleep around 815-830. Will sleep till around 730-830. He naps once a day 5 hours after he wakes up in the morning. I would just wake baby up around 7 in the morning and let her nap 3-5 hours later then try to keep baby up till bedtime. I would just start a routine and stick with it. We don't go out if b bedtime will be messed up. Now though he is good enough that we can keep him up till 9-930 and he is still ok. But 95% of the time 8 is bedtime no matter what.

DD goes to bed at 7 and gets up at 7 (she is just about 20 months).  Over the summer, we will keep her up until 8 or so because we will have things to do most weeknights.

This is us exactly. Daycare really tires our DD out.

  • No tips really...Carter gets ready for bed (bath, lotion, pjs, etc) at 7:30 and is normally in bed by 8:00.  He normally wakes up around 6:15-6:30.

  • Both go to bed at 8 pm. DS makes noise around 10-10:15 am. DD is usually awake around 9 am but plays quietly in her room.

DS is 1 and goes down at 9 - wakes up at 6.  I wish he'd go down earlier.  But then he wakes up earlier which I do not prefer.

My oldest-bed is at 7:00 but, we usually let her watch one or two Nick Jr shows so, asleep between 7:45-8:00.  She is always awake when we get up at 6:15.

  • Z goes to bed anywhere between 8:30-9:30pm and wakes up at around 9am. We can't seem to shift her to earlier times so we work with this. It gives me time in the evening to tidy up or read a bit. I'm by myself during the week anyway so I'd rather not fight with her over bedtime. She gets plenty of rest... though my dad keeps telling me that she needs to go to bed earlier.

  • DS goes to bed about 9:30pm and is up about 8:30/9am.  At one point, DS was staying up until 11p-12a.  It lasted for about 2-3 weeks and we slowly got it back to 9:30p.  It works for our schedules, even though it is a little later than I would like.  I don't normally get home until about 6:15/6:30p, so this gives us time to eat dinner as a family, spend some time together and also do his bath, before putting him down.

I am happy with her bedtime and wouldn't want it to be earlier. It used to be 7 p.m. and it really put a damper on any evening plans.

  • We've been playing around with DS's bedtime trying to find something that works. Right now he's going to bed at 8:30 and waking up 5:30/6. When it was later, he still woke up the same time. We've been trying to make it earlier, but he throws a big old fit if we try to get him down earlier than 8:30. Also, he wakes up 2-3 time a night.
