CA Bay Area Kaiser Members..question

Hi ladies,

I am a Kaiser member since January of this year. Since I started going to Kaiser I've had one ultrasound, which was my 20 wk, and since then, I've had none. I see on TB that many ladies are having ultrasounds done and I wonder why I haven't had one..or maybe its just the way Kaiser works.  Also, lots of moms tell me that I will soon start seeing my ob every two weeks then every week. I received my schedule of appointments and I my next appt is at the end of May ( I had my last appt at the end of April) and then I have appts setup every two weeks. So one in the second week of June and then the final appt one day prior to my due date...is this normal for Kaiser now?

This is nothing to do with Kaiser, it's actually normal at most hospitals.  If you're not High Risk then you most likely only get 1 u/s.  It really depends on the office and how they run things though.   Feel lucky that you've had an uneventful pregnancy.

  • I'm not a Kaiser member, but I've only had two U/S... one at 16 weeks (checking for a problem with my cyst), and one at 20 weeks. My doctor said that she doesn't like to run unnecessary tests, so I don't think I'll be having an U/S unless something comes up.

I'm not complaining, just was wondering why my appts were different than my other mom friends..but your are right, I do feel lucky that so far I have had a great pregnancy and I am by no means complaining. thanks!

Sorry wasn't trying to come off as snarky...kinda hard not to sound like that over the internet though Stick out tongue Wasn't trying to imply anything mean towards you so I apologize for that.

I am a Kaiser Member in the Los Angeles area. I have not had a u/s since around 20 weeks. My doctor told me they don't do extra u/s unless there is a medical reason. Also he said, Kaiser does not believe that 3D u/s have any medical purpose, so they don't do them. So I think it is normal not to have more u/s unless you are high risk or what not.

I have been seeing my doctor every two weeks since about a month ago. I think again, this is something that varies by doctor and what your test results show. I have some issues with blood work done, which is why he wanted to see me more often. I have heard others not seeing thier doc every two weeks until 36w and then once a week or something like that.

  • I have Kaiser, but in the San Diego area.  They told us that with a normal, healthy pregnancy, they really only do 3 u/s - one prior to 10 weeks (to see how far along you are), one at ~ 20 weeks, and then we'll do one more closer to my due date to ensure that baby is head down.  Obviously, if there are problems, complications, or any kind of concern, they'll do more.  My doctor gave me the option of having an appointmement every 2 weeks or weekly after I hit 36 weeks.  I opted for every 2 weeks.  This is my second pregnancy, and so far, everything has  been uneventful and completely healthy.  With my first pregnancy I had GD, so I had to go 3 times a week.  So not fun, and with a toddler, I would just prefer to go every other week.

If it makes you feel any better, we were really happy with the care that we received with DS1.  And so far, this pregnancy has been much the same.

  • I am a KP member in SoCal. I've had several ultrasounds but only because I am 41 and am considered high risk. I have an appt scheduled for May 14 which is 3 weeks after my last one. Then my next appt after that is June 1st.  Then I have weekly appointments until my EDD of June 25. I am currently 33 weeks, 3 days. You might want to ask your dr because up until my last appointment they still only had me scheduled for once a month appointments and the only reason was because my doctor's schedule wasn't yet available. The nurse called me to schedule the rest.
