Natural Birth

I really should have kept my bra on

I know it is silly but I'm disappointed in the photos taken at our birth. We didn't have a birth photographer  but I was fine with DH and the birth team taking photos at will. Between my crazy hair, my not so neat downstairs region, and my frisbee sized areolas my pics are a bit scary looking. I thought there might one or two nice ones but there isn't one that is in the realm of reasonable. I think having my breasts contained would have made a big difference. My birth was awesome but I won't be looking at those photos very often.

Re: I really should have kept my bra on

  • Well, I don't have any photos at all until DS was born, so I really wouldn't worry about it. Looking good was right up there with being BFF with my labour nurse on my priority list. Wink

Yeah I regret now that I won't ever be able to show anyone the pictures from my son's birth.  I have seen some really nice waterbirth pictures and instead mine are like, hello boobies!  Oh well.

  • I don't mean to make light of your post, but I had to giggle at "frisbee sized areolas".

I'm sorry that you don't love your pictures, but maybe someday you will.

  • I just feel like the pictures misrepresent the experience...if that makes sense. My memory better last a long time :-)

  • That's a bummer. I'm sorry you don't like your pics. I didn't want my picture taken during labor with Ds, and now I regret it. Maybe in 20 years you can look back and say "wow, my boobs looked fantastic!" :)

  • Could always have someone photoshop on a bra...in the meantime ;)

  • My doula got a picture the moment DS2 was half in and half out of me. Only DH and I have seen it, but it's totally awesome to look at every once in awhile. Everyone's faces are pretty priceless!

You could pay someone to expertly photoshop a bra and some fig leaves on you, hee hee hee!

  • Thanks for the advice. While I plan to wear a sports bra you never know what will actually happen in the moment, especially since we are planning a HB so I have more privacy than in the hospital. I'm sorry you don't like the pics, I agree with the photo editing or cropping ideas.
  • Im so sorry you feel that way about your photos but what a great reminder to us all to be conscious of our nakedness lol.

Im considering wearing a swimsuit top so I can easily take it off if need be, but I (like you) would be extremely distracted by my nipples in every picture and sad that I couldn't show them to anyone else.

  • See most of my pictures you can't see much, just a LOT of skin, but I can't stand to share them because they just feel so intimate and personal.

  • I kwym about the pics not representing the experience. I look like complete helll in my birth videos and our first family pictures are even worse. Maybe we will appreciate them in the future.

  • Yes, yes, yes! I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same way about the pics my doula took at DS's birth. With some clever cropping + Photoshop, I have managed to make 1-2 sharable (also coverting to black and white can really help things look less...fleshy).

I am so excited that we are having a pro photographer at this birth (free because our pics will be used in her portfolio, albiet we have veto power for modesty issues), so this is on my mind a lot. I am bringing a stash of tops (tank tops, swimsuit tops, and sleep bras) to wear in and out of the water in hopes that one or the other will be appealing to me in that moment.

  • I feel you on the areolas! Mine have always been huge and they've just grown since I've been pregnant. I expect completely brown breasts at birth as my areolas slowly consume every bit of real estate on my chest (and yeesh, there's a lot of it). I've been assuming I'll be pretty naked even thoughI'll be in a hospital (just DH and a doula with me), but I've been going back and forth about a bra, since the girls are so big and dangly I thought it might be uncomfortable without one but I wasn't sure. I think this helps sway me in the pro-bra direction! I'll probably just pick up some big, standard sports bras.

this made me laugh too because I totally understand. I'm sure that's how mine would turn out too! I can't help but feel that one day you'll look back on the pictures and appreciate them...huge nips and all! :-)

  • Yeah, I don't plan to have pictures taken while in labor. Maybe I'll regret that later, but I really can't imagine wanting to look at those very often. I may hire a photog friend of mine to be there for pictures immediately after the birth.
