My sisters and my mom threw me the most amazing shower this past Sunday. We got so many gifts, I was so overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. I'm just curious what everyone thinks....how many is too many?
receiving blankets?
swaddle blankets?
washcloths?
towels?
Thanks in advance!
Re: How many is too many?
Here is what I used and think is a good amount.
receiving blankets? I probably received about 15 of these from my baby shower (most used from garage sales so non returnable, thanks Grandma!). I can honestly say I NEVER once used any of these. I think I may have grabbed one here or there to use as a burp cloth when I ran out of clean ones.
swaddle blankets? I have two nice swaddlers, neither were used since my son hated being swaddled. I'd say start with one or two and see how baby likes it, if they are a swaddle baby then you might want to invest in more but these things typically aren't cheap for good ones so don't go overboard or just keep them in their original package to be returned if needed. Receiving blankets are good for swaddling too.
washcloths? I got 10 total. I am still using them (though DS is in desperate need for new ones now). But I found 10 to be plenty.
towels? 2-3. I have 4 for DS and I have always had a clean one or two available for him. I think 3 is just the right number.
I used receiving blankets as a cover for the changing pad on my changing table or anywhere else I was changing him. They were easy to wash and easy to change. I used a ton of them with baby #1. I also used them as spit up rags, too.
Swaddle blankets-my son never liked to be swaddled. I would have one or two on hand in case your baby does like it.
Washcloths-we used those for everything too. I have about 15-20 for this baby so when they get too nasty, I can just throw them away and not have to worry about getting more.
Towels- 2-3 is plenty
I'd like to mention that I do DS's laundry at least twice a week. When I was home with him for the first 4 months I was doing laundry more like 3 times a week.
receiving blankets? I'm with PP who said she used them on the changing pad when changing DS. It was SO much easier to just change out the receiving blanket when DS pooped or pee'd as I was changing him (which they will do), than to have to take the changing pad cover off and replace it. I think I have about 10 (maybe more) and was always doing laundry, but didn't feel like I had enough. But I'd say 10 is a good start.
swaddle blankets? DS didn't like to be swaddled, but that didn't stop me from buying a bunch of the A&A ones. I have probably 10 of them (thanks to babysteals), and that's way more than I need. However I do use them as blankets in DS's crib and he likes to play with them (put them over his head and play peek-a-boo). I'm hoping DD will like to be swaddled so I can actually use them for what they are intended this time around.
washcloths? I have about 20 washcloths and feel like that is a good number, I can always find a clean one.
towels? As an infant, I had 2 and that was plenty (we bathed him about every 3rd day). As a toddler DS is being bathed almost nightly (we shoot for every other day, but he has been coming home from daycare pretty dirty so he needs a bath daily) so I would say 4-5 toddler/kid sized hooded towels is a good number. I just did the laundry last night and I had 3 hooded towels in it, with one more clean. Last time laundry was done was Sunday!
DS threw up a lot. He has severe reflux.
We probably went through 15-20, maybe 30 receiving blankets. We used them for burp cloths, to line the bouncer and swing so when he threw up we could just throw it in the wash, etc. We had about 6/8 of our own and the rest we got from our multiple hospital stays.
We had 4 swaddles. He slept swaddled all the time, so we would use it until he spit up and then rotate it. 4 was the perfect amount.
Washcloths, we don't really use them. We had like 10, and I only ended up using like 3 or 4. We didn't do a bath every night and you only use one. And he threw up so much that I was always doing laundry.
We had 3 towels. One would inevitably get peed/pooped on, and we only use them like 2 days and then throw them in the wash.
