Your DH is a grain farmer?? So is mine! That's a pretty unusual occupation these days. We're in Wisconsin. I didn't look--where are you?

  • LOL i was just gonna page you too! we live in northern indiana. he's a 4th generation grain farmer for the family farm. we do soybeans, corn, and wheat. what about you guys? how do you like being married to a grain farmer?? i love that he is such a hard worker but planting and harvest can really drag on and i miss him like crazy! i spend a lot of time in the tractor though! did you grow up on a farm yourself? I am from the city so this is all new to me but I love the lifestyle!

  • I didn't grow up with it either, so I've learned a LOT over the last few years! I grew up in a city in Wisconsin with no farming relatives and NEVER would have guessed that someday my baby would be wearing a John Deere onesie. :)

DH's dad did some farming, but DH and his brother started their own business. It wasn't a family farm, per se, and we don't live in the country so I still live a split lifestyle--living in the 'burbs, working in the city, married to the farmer who works in the fields all day!  They own some and rent some land in four counties north of the city so it's pretty spread out and he does a lot of driving. They grow sweet corn and peas for processing in the summer, and soybeans and corn in fall.

I completely agree w/ you about planting and harvest!!! It's good in general, though, and I love my DH. It's a field of work (pun intended) that most people don't understand at all, so that can be hard. All of my friends have "normal" city jobs but they are always really interested in what DH is doing.

I'm really excited about him being home a lot when we have the baby in January, but very nervous about working FT myself w/ a baby during planting & harvest. We're just going to see how it all works out. "beenbizzy" on working moms is also married to a farmer so I e-chatted a bit with her on the subject last week.

Anyway, nice to see another grain farmer wife out there!  Happy Thanksgiving.

  • awesome! yeah I am glad BFP timed out to where he will be home more often. I am actually planning on being a SAHM once the baby arrives, so I am pretty excited about that. Looks like we'll be taking lots of rides with daddy in the tractor with baby in the sling :)
