Success after IF

??? about FET

Not sure if this is the board I should ask this but maybe you all could point me in the right direction.

My TTC history is in my bio if anyone is interested.  Long story short we conceived DD#2 through IVF in 2010.  I am hoping to do a FET at the end of the year.

1-I really would like to get PG in September but I would also be open to August or October. My DH is a teacher and maternity leave goes really well with him at home helping out. If I try in Sept. and don't get PG do they make me wait cycles before trying again? Also when do you think I should touch base with my RE? July?

2-Can they do PGD on embryo's that were previously frozen or should that have been done prior to them being frozen? (This sounds like a really stupid question but I honesty don't know the answer!)

3-What medications did you have to take for a FET? I am thinking this would be really different than last time because I don't have to stim for egg retrieval.

4-Even though my FE are from 36 year old eggs did age play a role in how many embryo's were transferred for favorable conception odds?  (I will be 38 at the time of FET so I may not even be able to get PG again)

Thanks for any feed back and I'm sorry this got so long.

Re: ??? about FET

  • I'm also hoping to cycle in September and we have our first consult this friday.  Our clinic recommends notifying them about 3 months prior to the time you want to cycle.  Yes, they can do PGD on frozen embryos.  I asked this when deciding whether to do PGD right off the bat with our IVF cycle.

    2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
    TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
    Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

I think you might be able to do back to back cycles, but I'm not sure. Contact your RE about 2-3the months before so that they can do any tests that need to be repeated in time for you to cycle. Also the meds I did with mine were bcp's the cycle before, estrogen prior to "ovulation", I have no recollection if there was a trigger or not, and then progesterone after the "ovulation" until the blood test.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

If I try in Sept. and don't get PG do they make me wait cycles before trying again? Also when do you think I should touch base with my RE? July? I wanted to start an IVF cycle in September last year and we met with him in July.

2-Can they do PGD on embryo's that were previously frozen or should that have been done prior to them being frozen? (This sounds like a really stupid question but I honesty don't know the answer!) That's a great question, but i would think they would want to do that before freezing, because don't they have to re-freeze them until they get the results? I wouldn't want double freezing if that makes since.

3-What medications did you have to take for a FET? I am thinking this would be really different than last time because I don't have to stim for egg retrieval. I took Estrace until abotu 4 days before transfer, I took estrace and prometrium, each 3 times a day. FET's are sooooo easy.

4-Even though my FE are from 36 year old eggs did age play a role in how many embryo's were transferred for favorable conception odds?  (I will be 38 at the time of FET so I may not even be able to get PG again) that I am not sure about, I think it varies from RE to RE. They may do more than 2.

  • Thanks ladies for the input.  I have a call into the RE and will start the ball rolling!  It seems strange because DD #2 is such a baby to me to be thinking about #3!!! Thanks again!
