37 week appt, and bad news

Today's appointment was a lot to take in all at once.  I had my weekly NST which was fine. Babe is doing great.  But I got results back that I am Group B positive, which is fine.  I have been having alot of swelling, and high BP through out my pregnancy, and have done 2 24 hr urine catches through out.  I just did a 3rd yesterday.  The results came back high, so I have mild pre-E.  The doctor took my out of work immediately and said that I am on bed rest, and will be induced at 39 weeks.  She told me to watch for any head aches, pain in abdomen, nausea and go to the hospital right away.  So I was really surprised, because I figured like my last two tests, that this one would come back fine as well.  So I wasn't anticipating being taken out of work this early.  Or that I may have the baby by May 18th which is my 39 weeks.  Any one have experience or words of advice?  I am nervous about being induced as I have heard so many negative experiences.  Also nervous about the preE because the doctor said that it can go from mild to severe very quickly and I need to be very cautious of symptoms.

  • I don't have any advice, but wanted to let you know that I am going through the same thing. Had my appointment today, high BP, swelling and I have to do a 24 hour urine catch/blood work Thursday and depending on results, will discuss induction. I'm a little shocked because last week my BP was perfect. Just wanted to say you're not alone and good luck no matter what happens. I just try to put my faith in my doctor and whatever is meant to happen will! T&P to you :)

  • I am right there with you.  My blood pressure was up and had a ton of swelling last week.  Went in for an NST Sunday and was placed on bedrest due to blood pressure spiking.  Baby looked great.

I go back to the Dr. today.  She wants to hold off as long as possible before we do the c-section.  On Sunday she said hopefully 10 days, DH is hoping we can go to 39 weeks we will see.

I had pre-e with DS too and was put on bedrest at 33 weeks lasted 4 weeks on bedrest keeping it under control and had ds via c-section at 37 weeks.

    Good Luck!

My appt last week was very similar.  My BP was high so I had to go for blood work (its been normal for my entire pregnancy)  I had gained 5 lbs in a week (the most of gained in a week so far), I found out I was GBS positive, and I was just all around miserable about the appt.   I was so grumpy my poor hubby had to deal with my bad mood all night long.  The MW set me up for an appt first thing this week to double check all my vitals etc. and when I got there.. I had lost a pound, My BP was back to normal, all my bloodwork came back "very normal" and she checked and I had progressed to 3cm!
So.. all this to say, don't get too discouraged.  Just relax, things can turn around instantly and stressing over it will only make it harder to relax and lower your BP.
    Good Luck!

  • My pre-e went from being mild Friday to extreme Monday. I had my baby at 35w6d because of it. My 24 hour urine collection came back at 420 when normal is 150. I had to have a c-section because she flipped on us after my doctors appointment. When I went in to have my section my blood pressure was 172/124.

I'm lurking but wanted to say that I had severe pre-e in the end. I actually had to have DS at 35 weeks because of it. So you are sitting good where you are. Just watch for the signs like you doctor said and if you feel less movement then call them right away. One other thing to watch for is blurry vision. I would notice this most when I was at the computer. Try to be laying down as much as possible.

I did have to have a c-section but it didn't have anything to do with my pre-e. DS was under distress and when they got them out the cord was around his neck. That was what was causing him to be stressed.

What you might expect after you deliver, that is if your BP is high, is being put on magnesium. Its only a pro-caution and don't let it scare you.

In the end my LO was 100% healthy. He was a little small, but this was due to other complications not related to pre-e.

I was on Mag Sulfate before I delivered and it SUCKED! I was on it until the next day. After it got out of my system it was the most amazing feeling ever. It made my arms and legs feel like complete noodles to where I could barely text and I almost fell over trying to walk.
