If you had any type of thyroid dx/treatment

Sorry...it's me again. Embarrassed

If you had any type of thyroid treatment by any type of doctor, what was your TSH level that triggered the investigation or treatment?

What does your RE consider normal?

  • I believe they wanted mine at 2.5 or below. Mine was 2.7 and I have been on levothyroxine ever since. After I have a baby, they said I could come off because it is just slightly off.

  • Mine was 3.8 six weeks prior to my IVF.  My RE had me on 100mg of the levothyroxine.

  • My clinic wants it below 2.5.

My TSH level was ~6 before treatment. The RE hasn't been able to stabilize my levels yet and, just a warning, elevation correlated with bcps for me.

  • When I first started with my RE my TSH was 1.1 which is pretty perfect.  After my last c/p last year, they ran all sorts of bw and my TSH was up to 2.7 - where that isn't crazy, it was high for me.  An endocrinologist put me on synthroid and started checking my levels and she opted to bring me lower than where my normal was - in fact, she told me to hold of cycling until she got me to around 0.8.  She said that is optimal for conception - and being as she went through IF herself, I really trust her.  She got me down to 0.9, i scheduled my FET, and now I'm almost 13w.  I sincerely believe that being on synthroid and taking a baby aspirin a day was the secret to this cycle  This was my 6th embryo transfer and those were the only things different...  hormones, especially hcg will make your TSH rise - they ran my tsh with my beta and it was up to 2.7 again.  The upped my dosage and brought it down and i'm not monitored every 4 weeks.

My RE considers anything under 2.5 normal.  But just because it's in a normal range doesn't mean it's normal for you.  I would definitely talk to an endocrinologist if you have concerns about your thyroid!

  • Mine was over 5. More than one IVF dr told me they like to see it under 2 for implantation. I take 25 mg of Synthroid. Its now well under 2. I also have the thyroid antibodies so my thyroid at some point will fail.
  • Thank you for all your details.  Mine has slowly crept up from my first test at 1.8 to my most recent at 2.8, so I'm not sure what to think.  It's not high, but it seems like it's not optimal for conception, but Ontario standards say anything under 3 is fine.  I will definitely investigate this further before any more cycles.  Thanks again!

  • Sorry to be on the late side. Mine was always in the low 2's: 2.1, 2.3. It rise to 3somethihng and another TSH went up to 4.6 shortly thereafter. I see an ME which has benefitted me since I go from clinic to clinic, and my levels are generally in the high teens on 50mcg synthroid. Even 4.6 is clinically normal and my ME says that it's controversial what the effects on TTC are, but its easy and safe to be on the conservative side and get the levels down. She went through IF treatments and has perspective on that which I appreciate.

C.ornell didnt care at all and said see an outside ME ifI had concerns, my other clinic wanted it under 2.5. Good luck.

Thank you.  What is the "M" in "ME"?

  • Medical endo. She did an ultrasound and more blood tests than just TSH, t3 and t4 if I remember correctly, and I saw her through getting my levels down and continue to see her before cycling. I would also see he through pregnancy. I am generally high-normal on the fasting glucose so it's nice to have her keep a eye on that as well.

Mine has been all over the board.  I always had an "enlarged" thyroid and was boarderline low thyroid level but once I hit 2.4 they started me on Synthroid.  It was also the nodules on my thyroid that send red flags to my endo that something was up and we did further testing which showed my cancer.

  • Crashing... Mine was 5 when my RE ran his RLP. I have hashimotos disease as well. He wants to see it between 1&2 before he will give the cycle an ok to proceed. I'm on 100Mg of lthyroxine m-sat and 50Mg on Sunday.
