Nurses really need to watch what they say!

Last week at my 36w appointment, I swear the nurse jinxed me by asking if I felt like I was coming to the light at the end of the tunnel. This was being said as I was stepping on the scale & it showed a 3lb gain in one week.

At this week's 37w appointment, a different nurse (I swear this one was nosy - kept looking at my info in my file!) looked & saw that I'm 37w & said, "Oh I don't think you'll make it to your due date." This was after having rode the elevator up with my doc (trust me, THAT was a little weird! lol! went to push the "3" button, realized it was already highlighted - duh! - & said out loud, "Well of course, that's where you're going." yeah.....) & him making the comment, "Well it looks like you're almost there."

Alright people, I have been telling myself that I will go past my due date, get to 41w & have to be induced. I've been saying this so if it happens I won't be surprised or disappointed. And if LO decides to come on time, or close to it, I'll be happily surprised. I'm trying not to get my hopes up here. I'm even declining any cervix checks (wasn't dilated any last week) until I'm 40w if I make it that far.

Ok, vent over. :)

Re: Nurses really need to watch what they say!

  • I just thought it was weird, none of the other nurses had done that before. And during my appointments whichever nurse I'm with just writes down my weight & bp. They don't really do anything else, that I've seen anyways.

  • Don't feel bad...my doc LOL'd at me today when I was talking at my appointment about how I probably wasn't dilated at all. He said, "what, are you trying reverse psychology on your cervix?" Hahaha. NOT FUNNY. And sure enough, I wasn't dilated a bit Crying Luckily, that doesn't mean much and he set an induction date anyway. HOORAY!

They really should be looking through your past info to check on trends with your weight and bp as well as seeing if the previous week any blood work or other tests were ordered so they can follow up on them if necessary.

Heck, a different nurse had to pop in & tell me my GBS test came back negative & ask if I wanted the doc to do a cervix check.
