Do I really need this?

I had my shower last weekend and I got a bouncer seat, pack n play, and a rock and play sleeper. I already have a co-sleeper that I will be using as a stand alone bassinet.... so he will not sleep in the pack n play.

My question is: do I need to keep all of these items? Will he EVER really use the bouncer or the rock n play sleeper? I am planning on buying a swing. I see that one as a necessity.

Re: Do I really need this?

  • Babies enjoy going from one to the other, when my nephew was a NB he used to be okay in the swing for 10 minuets, then cry, we'd move him to the Bouncer, and it would stop for 10 minuets, and so on. I would keep them, honestly. You may not think you'll need them but sometimes the swing isn't always the only thing baby will be comfortable in.

  • I would keep the pack and play. Especially if you plan on going anywhere as they come in handy IMO.

DD1 hated the bouncer and swing. I can't remember if they even had the RnP sleeper when DD1 was born, but we didn't have one and got by without it. I know some women swear by them though.

You could just keep them in the package until you decide to use them. If you never use them, exchange for store credit for diapers or something else you need.

  • I'd hold on to them until the baby is born.  I survived without a RnP but if your baby has reflux, I've heard it's a lifesaver.  The PnP is great for keeping baby contained when s/he is a little more mobile and you need to pee or something and it's a great travel sleep solution.  The bouncer we happened to love but if you have a swing you might be able to do without it.  But it really depends on the baby so if you can hold off to see what the baby likes, you won't have to spend time going out rebuying that stuff later :)

It depends on the baby, DS hated the swing but loved the vibrator on the bouncer.

I would def keep the pack n play. They are a great bed if you go to gma for a nap or to spend the night. And we still use it for DS on trips (although he is almost out of it now that he is 2.) Also the bouncer is great to bring into the bathroom with you.

  • We could not have lived with out our bouncer seat (the one LO reclines in and has the music/vibrate feature), the bounce-a-roo (where his feet hung down and he could jump) was a total waste.  Just my two cents.  Oh, and the PNP will be very useful later when you want to go somewhere but LO will need to nap/sleep and there is no crib.

I would keep them. I have all three as well. Lots of babies love the vibration from a bouncer seat and you never know if the rock and play sleeper will be needed for other reasons! Plus, the pack n play is great for traveling. It's up to you, but I plan on keeping all of mine. The one's I don't think I'll need immediately are going to stay in the boxes. I can unpack them when they are needed and if I never use them I plan on selling them to a consignment shop.

  • I agree that you may want to keep them in the package and see what the baby is like.  Every baby likes something different.  And I remember doing sort of a circuit with DD (play mat, bouncy seat, RnP).  I also kept my RnP in the living room and used it constantly throughout the day.  We have a big dog and I liked that it was raised off of the floor.  And due to the angle, she could watch me do stuff and eventually would fall asleep in it.  She napped in it until she was about 5 months.  She slept in her crib at night.

  • I would keep them. My boys loved the bouncer seat and not the swing. And the pack-n-play was handy when we went anywhere. Going to grandmas for the night or going outside and giving them a place to play/sleep while I worked in the yard. I agree with the others who have said to keep them in the packages until you do need them.

  • I have used my pack n play for traveling and the bouncy seat was a must while I was cooking. Your baby may like some things over others. Just try them out and see. Plus, if you have friends over with their LO it is nice to have extra places for them too.

  • The rock and play sleeper is like a bassinet?  If you have all these other things that baby can sleep in, you can probably exchange that.  Especially if there is something that you didn't get that you'll need.

The bouncer, swing, and pack and play all have some different purposes though...

  • Need - nope; helpful - definitely. I personally think the #1 to keep is the bouncer, if I could only have one baby item that is what I would go with. I hvae no idea how you would shower without it, and it is light and easy to drag around the house with you.

DD and a few other babies I know preferred the RnP over the swing. I know a lot of kids hate swings, but I've yet to hear of a baby that hates the RnP, and yes if you have reflux it is a life saver.

We personally used the pack n play as our bassinet and we have used it when staying with family. I will also use it more with LO2 as another containment device to keep him safe from dog and DD. Of everything you can get away without this, but if you visit family or stay places where you can't rent a crib, it is much more difficult.

  • How many levels is your house? If you have a  2 story I say keep it all.

I had a basinet next to my bed for awhile.  The bouncer stayed upstairs too so I could shower a little easier.

The 1st floor had the pack n play and the swing.

  • I would keep it and the receipts and decide as you go. IME:

Bouncer--we used this every now and then. It was a place to set baby other than the floor at times when I needed two hands and didn't want to/couldn't wear him.

Swing- we never had one. I borrowed one for 3 days to see if he liked it and it did nothing for us but take up  a lot of space for the small size of our house.

P&P- We borrowed one from a friend and used it in our LR every now and then. Once DS was too big for the newborn section of it, we packed it up. We've never cared for it as a playpen.

Rock N Play- never had one, never needed one. We cosleep with a side-carred crib.

All that said, each kid is different as is the way each family choses to use things.

  • Definitely keep the RNP and the bouncer.

I have a pack and play and a co sleeper. Never used the co sleeper. Ds slept in the RNP till he was4-5 months?
