We make grilled cheese for our LO probably about once a week. I used unsalted butter and she loves it!! There isn't much you can do about the sodium in cheese though. I think it's fine in moderation.
I don't use butter. I make it in the toaster so butter isn't necessary. Thanks to pinterest I found out if you put your toaster on its side the cheese doesn't melt everywhere.

Yes, I make DD's grilled cheese with butter. I figure it can't hurt since she only has it like once a week. If you don't want to do butter, you could always try a little EVOO.
When I make "grilled cheese" I just stick an open bun with cheese on it in the toaster oven and melt the cheese that way. When the cheese melts close the bun and serve.
If you really want to make a real grilled cheese you could always use unsalted butter...
Not butter, no. I put exta virgin olive oil in the pan (no sodium at all), use sliced tomato/mozzerella cheese vs american. Tastes even better (and is healthier for you!)
Re: grilled cheese, with butter?
How would you make it?
Really?
I use unsalted butter with LOs food. There's nothing wrong with butter in moderation.

I don't. I use the toaster oven to make it. I just use whole wheat and a slice of cheese and melt it that way.
She has however eaten real grilled cheese out at a restaurant--once or twice, because I just know it is something she will eat
