So, my H's company was bought out about a year ago, well he just found out they are shutting down in a year. We have to decide if he should sign the retention contract
Which means if he signs it, he has to stay the full time, but he will get his severence plus a bonus, but if he finds a job he gets nothing.
I'm a mess, I've been crying for about an hour. I hate this economy, it's crappy and I hate his company for buying out another company to steal the formulas and move them!
We have a new baby on the way for crying out loud. I can't handle this today.
I'm ready to leave work, but i am so busy.

My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Uggh! I'm sorry. I've lost my job twice in 2 years - so I can relate. The first time was 10 days before I had DS.
I would for sure sign the retention contract. He can still look for another job and if he gets one before the year is up great. Afterall, if he left on his own for a new job, he'd get nothing anyway. If he doesn't get a job before they close down, at least he'll have another year under his belt to count towards severance plus his bonus.
It's always easier looking/finding a new job when you already have one. Plus, it will look good to employers that he stuck with the company even though it's awful situation. Shows loyalty.
GL! It breaks my heart when I hear about people losing their jobs. I know all too well what it feels like emotionally and what it does to your confidence.

I'm so sorry. DH lost his job when the kids were 4 months, and ended up being a SAHD for more than a year before he changed careers. Now I'm home and he loves his new gig.
I hope everything works out. And I say sign the retention package as long as their isn't something negative in it about leaving before the year is up.
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks.
I'm not sure, he just said we have a lot to talk about tonight
I wish we could just fast forward until tonight!

I'm sorry for the bad news. I don't think I quite understand the retention contract--is there a reason that you wouldn't do it?

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
Wow, that is really stressful!
I hope you can come to a decision that will bring peace to your family!
If he signs the retention contract and finds another job during that 12 mos what would he be losing? The bonus? That's how I've typically seen them. They try to give lots of little incentives so the employee will stay until the end of the term. But then he would have another job.
That is stressful. I'm sorry. Hopefully you guys figure it out without too much stress.
I'm sorry, that totally sucks! I'd be inclined to sign just to make sure you have coverage when the baby comes, etc. and hopefully things will be better in a year when he is looking for a new position.
But so NOT the thing you need to be worrying about right now! So sorry.
