Natural Birth

Successful natural birth after induction?

I'm reaching my wits end here. Not only that, but I am not missing my DD dance recital next Tuesday.  This baby has got to come asap!  She's already having to deal with sharing me with DH after it only being the two of us for 5 years. Now, she'll have to adjust to having a sibling. I refuse to miss her recital, my mom said she'll come to town and do the backstage stuff with her since I know that I won't be able to.  : (

I never thought we would cut it this close!

Have any of you been induced and then gone through the rest of the delivery med free?

Re: Successful natural birth after induction?

  • With DS my water broke, but I was given pitocin because contractions were not intensifying fast enough for my Dr's liking. I also had antibiotics for strep B and local for stitches, other than that I was meds free.

My friend's daugher had 2 kids, both with cervadil (sp?) and pitocin, no epi.

    Does this help ?

I really believe in mind over body. With DS I was scheduled for induction on the 16th (which I did not want) nor did I want to go to work on the 15th because I was scheduled for an audit and I had no concentration by that time. I reeeeeaaalllly did not want the audit, so by water broke 10 minutes before the midnight on the 15th.

  • My water broke but labor did not progress, so I was given two (out of the scheduled four) doses of Cytotec and that was enough to get me going.  No pain meds.

  • Two (of three) doses of cervadil put me into full labor.  DS was born 3 hours later.

  • I had cervidil left in for 24 hours before starting pitocin and I was fine with just the cervidil, but once they started the pitocin (9am) it got pretty bad.. and by the time they broke my water (noon), I was flipping out and ended up with an epidural.  Do they always break your water in inductions?  I would try to avoid that if possible because thats definitely what made it the worst for me.

  • I've been induced twice with cervidil & not needed pit, for DS#1's birth I had a narcotic for DS#2's I went pain med free.  If you're not more than about 50% effaced speak to your dr about trying to avoid pit & just using cervidil, it's manageable.
  • I was induced with pit and had Nubain. If I had known Id have progressed from 4-10 in roughly 2 hours I would have avoided the pain meds.

  • I think the chances are best if the labor is not prolonged and/or you can avoid pitocin, which unfortunately many inductions are.

I have a friend who was induced and had her son in 6 hours with pitocin and no meds.  She was very relaxed about the whole thing, though.

  • My sister was given pitocin to induce, but they said very little (so they say) and then she had to have the epi b/c of the pain.  That of course slowed things down, but she was able to still give birth vaginally.  Just not med free.
