Where does LO take their daytime naps?

Hi ladies,

I had been putting DS2 in the bouncer seat for naps, in the living room amidst all the action.  This worked until just the last few days.  He's 1 month old.  What with the racket DS1 makes and all the stimulation he's had a hard time falling and staying asleep.

As of today I'm putting him upstairs in his room for naps.  Anyone else notice this once they are out of the very newborn stage?

  • I'm there with you. I used to be able to put DD in her RnP while I cleaned, cooked, made lots of noise, and she would stay asleep without fail (even when I turned on the vacuum in the same room as her!) Now, she just wants to open her eyes and look around at everything. She fights sleep something serious whenever she knows we're around the corner. I'll probably have to start moving her upstairs for her naps soon....I've been procrastinating because I always feel so guilty setting her in her bassinet while she is still awake and walking away. She always looks so sad/bored/confused.

But this is really good, if you can put her down awake and she will settle herself.  Often if they are staring off into space they are close to sleep anyway, and need to wind down away from the stimulation.  I think as they get older they need the peace and quiet.  Don't feel bad:)

FWIW, we never put DS1 down awake (always rocked him to sleep) and paid for it later.  This time I am really making an effort to put the baby down awake.  Sometimes I have to go back in and pat him, but I think he's already better at it than DS1.

  • LO naps in his crib upstairs or in his PNP downstairs. If he is getting sleepy in our arms or in his swing, we try to put him in the PNP before he falls asleep. It doesn't always work though.

  • DD is napping in the rnp in the living room since I am down there with the boys all day. Luckily she is still sleeping through the noise, but that could change any minute. I will probably have her nap in the rnp in our bedroom (maybe her room... not sure) with the monitor on whenever that changes.

  • Although I don't have any other kids to cause a bunch of noise, DD is still napping in the living room amongst all the noise(tv, dogs, and whatever various noises I make). She definitely not sleep like a rock like she used to but she will still stay a sleep for a good while. She is either in her boppy, bouncer, or the swing.

I have this strange fear that if I lay her in her RnP during the day she will get night and day mixed up again. Am I crazy? ...Probably.

  • She's definitely napping less! She sleeps (nap and night) in the RnP. I'm trying to put her in the PnP once a day, but she only lasts about 10 minutes before waking up... So then I'm torn between letting her sleep (in the RnP), or try to get her used to the PnP but not sleep...

  • DS sleeps in his bouncy or swing in the living room during the day. He needs lots of noise to fall asleep during the day or else he takes crappy naps (at night when its completely silent, other than the fan, he sleeps awesome?), so we usually have the TV up loud, or music playing on his swing/bouncy. I also try and hold him for one nap. I feel bad putting him down to sleep in all of those things all day and night and feel like he needs some cuddle time. When he gets a little older then he'll nap in his crib.
  • In my arms or while in the wrap unless we've gone somewhere and she is in her carseat in which case I let her stay there.

This is us too. We carry the RnP everywhere we go. Upstairs, downstairs - it's where she does all of her sleeping. We tried her cradle when we first got home, but she had really bad reflux and would spit up and choke whenever we laid her flat on her back, no matter if it had been 2 hours since she last ate. The pedi said to keep her elevated. I know at some point in time we'll try a transition to a PnP, cradle or crib but I'm nervous about the excessive spitting up.

She sleeps in her swing in the living room during the day, she still sleeps fine through the noise of the dogs barking...knock on wood...

  • At night she sleeps in the bassinet in our room, and usually her first nap of the day is in the bassinet.  The rest of the time she usually sleeps in the swing in the living room, although it's not always "swinging".  So far she still sleeps well though all the commotion, and she's almost one month old.

  • I normally have DD (1 month 2 days) take her naps in whatever room we are in during the day. She sleeps on me, in the bouncer, in the RNP, or just a blanket on the floor. I will put her in her crib (or at least move the RNP into her room) if she wants to nap at the same time DS is having his "quiet time." That way, I get time to myself, and that time to myself really does make me a better mommy in the afternoon.

  • He always sleeps in the RnP. Generally his naps are in the living room, unless we plan on doing something really noisey (like dishes). Then we will take him and the RnP to his room. Little stinker will NOT fall asleep unless he is being held. And our later afternoon naps are a battle. Even when being held he doesn't want to go to sleep.
