I just noticed today a big blotch on DD in the lower abdomen on the right side below her belly button. it is a mocha color and oddly shaped. It reminds me of my birthmark I have on my leg. My only concern is that this is the first time I noticed it. Anyone else have this experience? I pressed lightly on the spot and DD didn't seem bothered by it at all. Not sure if I should call the Pedi or not since I already have an appointment on Thursday.

    My daughter has two strawberry birthmarks that developed after her birth.  I read that is typical for that type of birthmark (they aren't usually present right away).  Both have slowly gotten brighter and more raised over time.  My pedi said that is normal and that they'll both peak in a few months and then start to fade away.  If it appeared suddenly, I might call in just to ask about it, but I probably wouldn't bother going in before Thursday.  Unless it starts to bother her or the on-call nurse is concerned.

    I would ask about it Thursday.  That sort of thing isn't usually urgent and can wait.  My DD's strawberry is growing too rapidly and our pedi referred us to a specialist, but even that appointment was set for 3 weeks out - so I don't think there's much of a hurry!

    DD has a birthmark on her chin that's barely noticeable, just a slight discoloration. She had a HUGE hemangioma on her lady parts, though, so they check it out every visit. So far it isn't causing trouble. It looks painful, but it isn't. They told me it will keep growing until 3-4 months then start shrinking again. It's pretty typical :)
