Bath before bed

Do you give your LO a bath before bed? I tried twice, both those nights he had a hard time going to sleep after. I'm thinking it may stimulate him too much right now.

Not every night but that's usually when he does get it. He loves it though, and it really calms him down, especially if he's fussy. When he went through his extra fussy time a few weeks ago, I found giving him a bath was one of the only ways to relax him so he got a lot of baths then.

  • When we give a bath that's usually when he gets it.  It does stimulate him.  He loves the baths, but HATES being taken out of the warm water (who doesn't?).  That usually leads to some serious crying.  We do a lot of cuddling after bath time and rocking or walking around.  By the time he gets his pre-bed feeding he usually relaxes and goes on to sleep.
  • Yeah, I know that baths and massages stimulate some babies... if it wakes him up too much, find another bedtime routine that's more calming for him :) Maybe do bathtime in the morning when you have your shower?

Am I alone here? *LOL*  Bath once per week...that's all she gets right now.  She doesn't get very dirty anyways.  I do clean her bottom with warm wet cloths every diaper change, and wipe her face/neck about once per day, and sometimes her hands.  I figure that I'll up the bathing and get into the bath before bed routine later on when she's a bit older.  For now I am finding it hard enough to keep up with things as it is.  I simply don't have the energy to haul all of her bath stuff out (tub/towels..etc.) and deal with just one more reason for her crying.  Maybe that's just me?
We usually do baths every 2-3 days. Depends on if he was sleeping before his last bottle and I don't want to stimulate him too much. I just bathed him now, and fed him but had to rock him for about 10 minutes before he passed out. Not that its a long time, but usually he goes down on his own with just a couple strokes to his hair.
  • I try to give her a bath every night.  I time it so that we do bath, pjs, and then feed right away.  It puts her out every time!

  • He gets a bath every other night, but we don't do it right before bed. He takes one right after his brother does around 7pm and then he doesn't go to sleep until 9/9:30 usually. His bedtime "routine" so far is just nursing in our room with the lights dimmed, then I rock him until he's almost passed out, then I put him down. Simple as that! Once he starts going down earlier like his brother (around 8), bath will be part of his routine.

We only bathe our LO once a week as well. She's not a big fan of the bath, though she did a little better this weekend. We bathe her in the afternoon because she gets so worked up and upset there's no way that she'd easily sleep afterwards. I suspect this will change as she gets older.

  • How long do you  let LO play in the water? I give my LO a bath every 2-3 days and it makes him sleep HARD at night.  Bath will go at 8pm for about 15 mins. LO loves the water and totally loves to kick and play. Afterwards we put on warm pj's and feed. LO usually sleeps very good after bath.

  • We give DS a bath every night before bed as part of his bedtime routine.  At first, it revved him up and he would scream through the whole thing but after trying a couple of tricks, he's totally calm and loves it now.  It definitely relaxes him before bed.

  • DD has super sensitive skin so we only bathe every 3 days unless she vomits on herself, which unfortunately she does a lot. She LOVES the bath and will just sit there and smile at me. Unfortunately she hates coming out of the bath and always cries. By the time we give her her bottle though she's sleepy, so ut really doesn't have an effect on sleepy time.

  • I will generally give P a bath at night (every 2-3 days).  I do it when she starts to show signs of getting sleepy.  The bath keeps her awake a little bit longer and then I put lotion on her, get her in pjs and give her a night time bottle.  She usually will go straight to sleep and sleep for a long time.

  • We can't bathe her right before bed.  She doesn't sleep.  We usually bathe her at 5:00 and it seems to work out well!
