I posted yesterday about going into L&D in the middle of the night with strong contractions only to have them stall and not progress me any way. I was checked twice while I was in the hospital, and they told me I might have some crampiness from it. Well, since getting home yesterday morning, I've been having hard contractions. They refuse to become timable. I have at least one every 1/2 hr, so I can't sleep, and for some reason they seem more intense when I am lying down. I got up at 2 am again last night because of them. They go from every 1/2hr to every 13-14 mins to every 3-5 mins. I'm so sore and so tired because I can't rest. I've tried to get them to progress or stop. I've drank water, lay down, ate something, rocked, walked, showered, peed, everything. I keep passing pieces of my MP/bloody show which started yesterday before we headed to the hospital. I'm so tired and wore out from being in on off labor for two days. Suggestions? Is it possible they will never be timable?
Re: Need advice or support or an epidural
I went through something similar last week. Contractions were inconsistent in the morning then eventually got pretty regular at 3-4 minutes apart. Aparently they weren't strong enough so I wasn't admitted, but I thought for sure that was "it".
I was told they would get timable and would continue to get stronger as time went on and that's what would differentiate them from BH or prodromal labor.
Good luck and take it easy, if you can.
How much water have you had? At least 90oz? Dehydration causes prodromal labor, or can cause early/active labor to stall. For me, once they rehydrated me, my labor took off. Also, baths can STOP contractions, as well as help them. I saw you showered, but have you tried bathing? I love lying on my side and having the weigh off my belly.
Other than that. You have my sympathy. I think I'm about to be in your shoes. I had hours of them yesterday, and then they just stopped, only to wake me in the middle of the night. I didn't experience ANYTHING like this the first time around. My OB said its normal, and gets worse the closer you get to delivery with Baby 2+.
I swear these aren't braxton hicks. They are very strong. I can't walk, talk, I can barely breath through them. It's like real labor that just won't get consistent. I'm so sore and exhausted from it. Seriously I'm worried that if this keeps up for a couple more days, I won't have anything left when I do go into active labor.
Some of them are so strong they make me shake.
Maybe call your dr and find out what's more "important", the strength of the contractions or the fact that they're timable. If you've tried everything else, including LOTS of water and rest maybe your doctor will have you come in to get checked (again).
Good luck momma!
Thanks. I have a doc apt with my regular OB at 10:30. Although I really don't want him to check me, I want to know if I'm progressing. My high-risk doc told me in L&D yesterday that if I come in this Thursday for my apt. and I'm progressed (I used the example 80% and 3cm) he'd send me straight to L&D for an induction. Not that I want to be induced but my high risk doc/hospital is 1 1/2 hrs away. He was just worried if he induced me then, I would end up with a C/S.
This is exactly what happened to me for three days! They would be come timeable, like every 6-10 minutes for 4 hours then stop for 4+ hours. I was exhausted and in fact never even wanted to go into the hospital my mom finally forced me. Baby was born 4.5 hours later after three days of that. What ended up being the problem is baby was coming kind of sideways in the birth canal. Which made for a painful push they had to twist each shoulder out!
I did end up with a spinal which progressed things immensely. The spinal only lasted 2.5 hours and i got it at 6 cm. Baby was born 1.5 hours later. Although by then I did pretty much feel everything and could freely move my legs!
It was a struggle to decide to have the spinal because I went all natural with my first and loved the experience. But this time was so different i was emotionally and physically exhausted. i think the birth would have been a bad experience had I not gotten the spinal this time!
