Success after IF

DD shows no interest in self-feeding

Hi ladies, DD is 11 mos and still not interested in feeding herself finger foods. I've offered/have fed her various foods over the past four months and once or twice she picked something up and put it in her mouth. Is there anything I can do to encourage her more? She's a good eater and likes most everything she is just laid back and content to be fed. Oh and she also loves textures and will touch/smash/bang pieces of food together.

  • Just keep offering, eventually they will pick it up. Dillon really didn't self feed himself until much later. He was also big on textures and he would not eat anything that felt weird to him. Eventually they get to a point where they NEED to do everything by themselves, so I assure you that this will pass.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I couldn't have said it better. My girls took a whole 12 months to hold their own bottles!

  • My DS didn't like feeding himself either at first.  I would cut up banana and other things and put them on his tray.  he would poke at them but not even try to pick them up.  I finally figured out that a chunk of banana (like 1/3 of hte whole) was easier for him to pick up and take bites out of.  Once I figured that out I stopped cutting things up and started giving him whole things or big pieces of things.  He likes to eat meatballs, chicken nuggets, chunks of pineapple and watermelon, 1/2 piece of toast and hard rolls now.  It took a long time.  Just be patient and keep offering her stuff!
