Remind Me This Means Nothing...

I've been having irregular painful/painless contractions since about 2. I'll have as many as 10 an hour, or as few as 5. Some are really intense, but not painful...more like strong BH with period like cramps, and others are weaker, but start in the back of my hips and move to the front and top...but only my back hurts, with slight pressure in my, um, bum.

I didn't have this with DD. Is it just ramping up the BH for the final dash? Or, am I starting prodromal labor? OR...am I in the very early stages of early labor? I slept through that part with DD.  Arghhhhhh!!!! Being a second time mom is confusing!

Nothing to do but wait it out. Sigh. I think it's just a busy contraction day.

  • Well it does mean your body is gearing up at the very least!

For real!  I never actually went into traditional labor with DD#1 so I am really nervous about labor starting this time around.

I can say that I too have been having on and off painful/painless/crampy type contractions (stronger than BH) for the last week or so.  I asked my OB about it and she told me that with second (and so on) pregnancies the pre-labor contractions and BH are more painful, can be more intense and can include cramping that we didn't experience before with our first.  I guess it's because the ute has "been there done that" so our bodies are just more efficient at gearing up...which is what I would say yours is doing!

  • I was like this on Saturday... and I'm still here.

But.... it is a good sign! Your body's prepping! :)

  • Ditto!!! I thought being a second time Mom this would be easy!!! I have no flippin' idea what my body is doing but it has been doing what you are describing and then some since last Sunday!!!!

Everyone I have spoken to says its prodromal labor. I had no idea such a thing even existed until the first person on here told me about it.

I hope for your sake, mine, and every other lady out there that this show gets onthe road soon because this stuff is no fun!!

  • I feel your pain. My contractions are just annoying; they are down right painful. When I was hooked up to the monitor today, they were BIG contractions. I can't even rock through them on the rocking chair let alone walk through them. However, according to my last cervix check, they aren't doing anything. They are wearing me out though. I'm afraid all this pre-labor will have me exhausted before the real labor starts!

  • Well, they stopped, or rather slowed down to they're typical 1-2 an hour. Mixed blessing. On one hand, it means I'm not likely to be in labor anytime soon. On the other, I should be able to sleep somewhat decently!

  • No contractions and no advice here, but I agree that being a 2nd time mom is confusing. I had to be induced with DD1 because of low amniotic fluid, so I never went into labor on my own. Therefore, I have no idea what to expect, and I feel like a ticking time bomb! I'm also starting to think I will be pregnant forever. I just can't wrap my head around the concept if being fine one minute, then starting labor the next!

    Hope you get some rest.

  • Another STM here with similar complaints ;)  I keep going through periods with lots of contractions/cramping, time them (usually lasts 90 minutes), then they stop.  No rhyme or reason!  I was put on bedrest at 32-36 weeks for PTL, so now that I'm back up on my feet I am READY to meet my little one (I know, I know, it's still a little early).  I did not have any of this mess with DD.  My water broke with her at 39w4d.  I don't want to wait that long! :P

  • I had a variety of contractions/cramps yesterday - some just like period cramps, some with pelvic pain and hip pain, some with back pain, some with rectal pressure, etc.  I kept thinking "ooh this is it!" but nothing.  Just when I would get my hopes up it would all stop lol.

Maybe though your body is getting ready for the big show and alien will make his appearance sooner rather than later!
