Immunizations tomorrow!

I'm so nervous!  I'm probably going to cry more than DD!  Has anyone gone for them yet?

Re: Immunizations tomorrow!

  • DS had his last week- he was already crying before he got them, which somehow made it easier. He didn't sleep for long periods like I had heard he might. He also picked up a stomach bug from daycare 2 days later, so I'm not sure if they compromised his immune system. GL!

  • My poor Zoe had a very strong reaction to them. When we got home, she slept for about 2 hours...and then woke up screaming like she's never screamed before. She would continually doze off and then wake up 10 minutes later screaming/panicking. This went on for the rest of the evening. She finally calmed down around 10 pm. Make sure you give acetominofen like your pedi might suggest and also tons of snuggles. She didn't leave my arms that whole evening, but once she finally went to sleep for the night, she was ok. The next day she was perfectly fine, but just be ready because you may be in for a long day. :(

Ours went great-- so great that I actually joked to my pedi that I wished he got them every week! The nurse that did them administered them super fast and I had a bottle in his mouth as soon as she popped the needle out. It soothed him immediately and he never even had time for tears to start. He napped the rest of the afternoon and when he woke up, he was Super Happy Baby. He slept a bit more the next day, too and was also in a good mood. No fever, no fussing, no reaction whatsoever. I hope yours go as well!

  • DS has had 2 sets.  He cried during the shots but calmed down quickly when I was able to pick him up after.  He slept a good chunk of the day, basically only woke up to eat, then was a little fussy in the evening and was pretty much fine by the next day.

When he had the first set, the nurse also gave him the Rotavirus immunization which is oral.  That did wreck his tummy for a few days - more spitting up, diarrhea, blowouts, etc.  It's apparently a common side effect which I found out online after.

  • Ours were a piece of cake. She cried a lot when she got the shots (and I cried, too) but we put a bottle in and within 15 seconds she was no longer crying. She slept all day and she slept much better at night than she had been. Then she slept a lot the next day, too. My child is not a napper so it was kind of awesome, and she wasn't the slightest bit uncomfortable after the first 5 minutes.

  • DD had hers last week and they went ok.  She started crying when the doc gave her the rotavirus oral medication, so she was already crying and fussy before the needles went in.  She cried a little after, then was really happy for a bit at home.  Soon after that she fell asleep on me and pretty much slept in my arms all day.  She was pretty fussy in the evening, but then slept well at night.  The next day she was fine, except she had a red spot where one of the injections was put in.
