new RE = hysteroscopy...any advice??

so I finally met with a new RE for a second opinion.  He feels that we are definitely missing something.  I am now just waiting for AF to show...which is a rare occasion, so tomorrow I have to go find out if I've O'd, so I can move forward with my provera, CD 3 BW and a :::gulp::: hysteroscopy.  Any words of advice with this?  I opened the pamphlet and my eyes immediately gravetated to the" RISKS" section.  I closed it immediately....I am a self confessed wimp, and sometimes the details make me more nervous.   What level of pain should I expect?  Crying

TIA

Hi sweetie! Thanks for your note below.

I've had two diagnostic hysteroscopies. It's not painful, per se, but it isn't comfortable.  Did they tell you to take ibuprofen beforehand?  I'd recommend it.  The good news is that it's pretty quick. If you've had an HSG before, I'd say the hysteroscopy is easier. It's all relative, of course. It's good you're doing this!

  • Your new RE will not be your friend for a couple of minutes.  It is painful, some say uncomfortable, I say painful, but you can handle this.  If your clinic isn't going to give you any meds ask if they mind if you take a couple of tylenol about an hour before the procedure.

I have had 3 and have never taken any meds, but I am pretty stubborn.

    GL!

Just wanted to say good luck!  I hope it's not as uncomfortable as you think it will be.  I've had an operative hysteroscopy but was put to sleep for it. I am glad I did it though b/c they found some adhesions near my cervix from my d&c. Hopefully you will get some answers soon!!

Ok. So Mayan is right.  It sucks.  They gave me two vicodin for the second hysteroscopy and I was still uncomfortable.  I reiterate that it should be a quick procedure. You can do this! I promise.

  • I have had 2 diagnostic hysteroscopies and 1 operative hysteroscopy. For the diagnostic hysteroscopies, I wasn't sedated or anything like that and they were both in-office procedures. They were mildly uncomfortable but not as uncomfortable as a HSG. I hope it goes smoothly and easily for you. Good luck!!
