I read a response on a separate thread from someone on here saying that swaddling and exersaucers can cause hip dysplasia. I did not know that and I have been putting DD in an exersaucer and a jumperoo every once in awhile (Never for more than a few mins at a time, never leave her alone in it. DD jumps up and down really hard and it makes me nervous) and I also swaddled her.
Can somebody tell me more about this or link me to an article. I'm afraid that if I Google it I'll read about some poor baby that was left in an exersaucer for 3 days straight and I'll get upset. I heard someplace that some people are trying to have entertainers/bouncey things banned from being made (because people put their kids in them and then walk away for like, 5 hours) but I don't know how true that is either.
Re: Exersaucer or Jumperoo & Hip Dysplasia
You can read about safe swaddling on hipdysplasia.org, but it seems like the cases stem from tight swaddling around the hips, so if you used something like a SwaddleMe or a Halo Sleep Sack with the swaddle attachment you are fine.
Also, there is a reason why people have nicknamed exersaucers "neglectosaucers" there are parents who leave their kids in them for way too long and that can cause damage. Don't worry about your daughter being in there for short periods while supervised.

Unless you are leaving baby in one for 5 hours a day, it's fine.
DS is in Physical Therapy and even he was allowed to be in the exersaucer (and with his muscle issues he's at risk for hip dysplasia) 15 minutes at a time 2-3 times a day.
The jumperoo is actually worse than the exersaucer. And the issue with swaddling is when you swaddle from head to toe. SwaddleMe's are fine. After 3 months they recommend only swaddling a child's arms and leaving their legs loose and free. DS was swaddled until 10 months.
We use an exersaucer several times a day, until baby's tired of it, so 10-30 minutes at a time. We take her out when she indicates she's done.
In terms of bans, are you referring to AAP's push to ban walkers? That movement is inspired by the injuries associated with walkers, 96% of which are caused by the child falling down the stairs while in the walker. The remainder of injuries are mostly made up of a child falling in the toilet while in the walker. To avoid these risks, you can 1) use an exersaucer/activity center instead 2) use a walker but keep it on the bottom floor of the home & keep a gate at your bathroom door. I researched it pretty thoroughly when deciding whether to get ride of the walker we were given by my FIL and I never came across any hip dysplasia concerns.
