does that mean this kid might start eating soon?
I'm kind of ready for him to eat more solids, but he's perfectly happy being primarily breastfed. The flaw, unfortunately, is that me and my boobs go back to work on Wednesday. He does not consider breastmilk from a cup to be the same thing at all.
God, grant me strength, because it's going to be a hard week.
Re: So if food before one is just for fun...
Ah, now your ticker makes more sense! DS was fine with solids before 1, but he would do days with only BM here and there. Sometime between 12 and 13 months that stopped and it was all about the solids. He still likes to nurse, but the purpose is so different now--just quick little snacks or being latched but not even swallowing.
It will happen. I can't tell you when or how, but it will happen. It may be gradual, it may be fast. With the realities of your changing work life, it sounds like you will know soon enough.
GL on the transition back! What a big week for your family.
ETA- I remember being at a LLL meeting right before 12 months asking a very similar question thinking that he wasn't anywhere near making the transition to primarily solids, but sure enough it was right around the corner.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
Happy birthday, Owen!
Good luck with everything. It's so nice that you could SAH with him for a full year. I don't have any wisdom for you, but I hope it all works out well.
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
This.
My LO didn't really get into solids until just recently and it's still hit or miss. I work full time from home and she has a pretty busy schedule so there are days where she is gone all day and she's fine. She nurses more in the evening and used to at night. Until we might weaned. She also never took BM in a cup or soppy or anything. She does drink a lot of water. And sometimes OJ. Your kiddo will be fine and you'll figure it out. Good luck!

Mine just started eating more than 2 bites of solid food a day a couple weeks ago. Now he is teething again and only wants to nurse. I am so ready to be nursing less, especially at night. I've tried some gentle methods, but nothing has been successful. He is really attached to nursing. I just tell myself it isn't forever.
I work 3 days/week and am gone for 12+ hours. I gradually transistioned him to WCM because I am over pumping. This was my last week pumping at work. Honestly, he barely drinks 3-4 oz of milk (BM or WCM) while I am gone, and nurses like a fiend when we are back together. Sometimes I am a bit uncomfortable from engorgement at work since he still nurses so frequently, but it's tolerable.
