Reccomend your convertable car seat and why!

Ladies,

I'm a FTM due in early August.  We have our infant car seat (given to us by MIL), but want to register for our convertable car seat for down the road.

Can you all suggest what you have/like/plan on using and why?

I have really been looking into Britax and the Recaro brands due to high ratings and thanks to the baby bargains book suggestions.  Thoughts are welcomed!

  • We have a safety 1st onside air and we really like it. It fits nicely into our Subaru hatchback. We put it in the middle seat and both DH and I have lots of room left over.

  • We love our graco smartseat.  It goes all the way from newborn to booster and has a high weight limit for rear facing.  Some carseats have rear facing limits that are 20-30 lbs.  The new recommendation is to be rear facing until two or even longer if possible.  Since DS is over 20lbs already, we got one that could face the rear up until a higher weight.  The stay in car base was important for transfering seats between my car and DH's truck.  I also like the no thread harness (it adjusts when moving the head rest) and its high safety rating.

  • We have the Recaro ProRide and LOVE it. I saw reviews that said it was hard to install and this and that but the safety was my biggest issue so I figured we would get it inspected. It was soooo easy to install with the LATCH system and my daughter loves it. It is big. I drive a Trailblazer and it fits great in my car, but a smaller car may have problems.

The adjustments are so simple- no re-threading to adjust any of the straps. We love it- highly recommend the ProRide.

We just switched to it a few months ago and am so glad I bought it!
