I figured this is the best place to ask. I've tried the Baby Bjorn and the Infantino Front2Back and both put strain on the front of my shoulders. So much so that I can't stand to use it longer than 10mins. I've tried and adjusting and re-adjusting, loosening and tightening the straps and nothing helps. DS is almost 17lbs-is that the issue? I returned the Infantino today and the Bjorn was a freebee. I'd like to have a carrier where baby can face in or out and isn't completely covered by material like you see with a wrap. Yet I don't want to spend a lot of money on one because I don't use it very often. Any suggestions or experience with this?
Re: I want a carrier that doesn't put strain on my shoulders!
You'll use it more often if it's comfortable. I have an Ergo, which is GREAT for putting most of the weight on my hips. The only Infantino I'd use is the Wrap and Tie or Ecosash.
Personally, I've found having the baby facing only in isn't a problem. I put him on my back if he wants a different view.

I loved my Ergo and could wear it for hours and hours with no problems at all. I was hesitant to spend $125 on it, but SO happy I did, and I ended up using it way more than I thought I would because it was so convenient and easy to use.
Also, they sell on my craigslist for $80, and they sell quickly. So you might try buying one on craigslist, or at least know that if you only use it a few times, you will be able to sell it and get some money back.
No matter what carrier you have, baby facing out is going to put a much greater strain on your shoulders and back. Babies weight is pulling away from you and adds stress. Baby facing toward you keeps their weight with your weight and center of gravity. It's just easier.
Ditto! You can only face baby in, but that's best for your back/shoulders and for baby.

Do either of those have a waist strap? I think that's the bigger issue with hurting your shoulders, especially when the baby gets over 15 lbs or so. I'll go out on a limb and say whether or not the baby is facing out or towards you is not the biggest issue with shoulder pain - the horror!!!
I really love the Beco Butterfly myself, but the Beco Gemini can do forward-facing or tummy-to-tummy. Ergo and Boba are both the same kind of carrier as Beco. Ergo Sport is a lighter material, but I've never used it myself.
The ones I mentioned are all over $100 - but they have a decent resale value, and you can use them up to about 40 pounds (i.e. until your kid is in preschool, no joke).
You can also look into finding a used one - here's a FB group that sells carriers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/196221090408274/

LOVE my Beco Butterfly. Had the Bjorn since it was a gift and hated it...killed my back. tried out a ton of carried, beco, boba, ergo, etc... the beco fit me the best since I'm taller and it's a little "longer"...Ergo didn't hit me correctly under my arms...boba was good, but I just ended up liking Beco better. my suggestion would be to find a place where you can try them all with you DS and get the one that fits you two the best. they all aren't cheap so it's worth doing your homework
(www.heavenlyhold.com - where I got mine let's you do a trial for $8 for 14 days to test them out...at least they did when I bought mine about 8 months ago)
