My ER was yesterday. Everything went well. I was totally knocked out and felt nothing until I woke up after. I don't know why my nurse said I'd be conscious for it. I was definitely out.
I was in a lot of pain right afterwards. The anesthesiologist gave me some addition pain killers, and that helped. But the first 30 mins in recovery were really uncomfortable. I slept most of the day once I got home.
The dr. who did the procedure didn't tell me how many eggs were retrieved, and I was too out of it to ask. Is that normal?
I got a message from the clinic nurse today, saying 8 were fertilized and I'm scheduled for a Day 3 transfer on Wed. I called back to confirm and ask how many eggs were retrieved, and if a Day 3 transfer was the best plan, but couldn't get the nurse.
I'm so frustrated by my clinic. I thought the IVF process would be more hands on, and I'd feel less like a cog in the machine, but it's the same as the IUI process. It's a factory.
When am I supposed to get another fert report? Should I talk to my doctor tomorrow about how many to transfer? I'll call them tomorrow and ask, but I always feel like no one bothers to make time for patients there. If this doesn't work, I'm changing clinics.
Happy and nervous and frustrated all at the same time.
Re: ER update - And confused by my clinic
Sorry you are feeling out of it and confused with the info you got. When I awoke from retrieval, my RE was there and told me how many retrieved (5). She didn't yet know whether they were mature or not. The next day, my nurse called me to tell me how many were mature and how many fertilized. Then on Day 3, my RE called with a status update to tell me how the embryos were doing and that we would be doing a 3dt that afternoon.
If you don't feel like you are getting the attention or information you deserve, I would look for another clinic. You are paying too much money and putting your body through too much hell to just be a number or "cog" in the wheel.

8 sounds good! Good luck with the 3 day transfer. Sorry you are frustrated with the lack of personal touch, but so glad that you have 8 fertilized, hope you have great numbers by Wednesday.
Very exciting!

My experience was exactly like MrsNukem's.
The RE will give recommendations of how many to transfer based on the guidelines and taking into consideration embryo quality on transfer day.
I find it kind of odd that they'd assume a 3 day transfer if you have 8 embryos. You could have been scheduled solely based on your age and may, in fact, get the call that transfer has been rescheduled. Standard practice at my clinic is you get pushed to 5 days if you have 5 or more good 8 cell embryos on day 3. 5 day transfers are used to help with selection of the best embryos.
Congrats on your 8! and Good luck! May the next couple of weeks fly by.
Well said....Good luck!!!
Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I'm going to skip the nurse and call my RE tomorrow. I really like her, but the clinic is so big and busy they just don't bother taking the time to explain the process thoroughly.
And I'm really excited about having 8 fertilized!
Fingers crossed for everyone cycling! God luck to all of us!

8 is a great number. I will tell you that my experience was nothing like yours. They told me right away how many eggs they got. They called me every day with a status update on my embies. They day of the transfer, my RE called me in the morning to discuss how many to transfer and gave me the latest update on how they were doing. The day of the transfer they gave me a photo of my embies in a little frame with a note signed by the embriologist (I don't know how to spell that). My nurse called me yesterday just to check up on me.
I really hope this is it for you and you don't need to worry about finding a new clinic.
