Re: showering with LO

  • Literally showering with them in it?? Or showering in general?? DS is very patient in his swing while I shower.

  • Yeah, I've seen people post that on the Babies 0 - 3 board.  I don't see how you can accomplish much of anything while holding a baby in the shower.  Plus I'd be too concerned that they'd slip out of my arms!
  • I shower and then when I'm done if I need to bathe DS, I turn the shower temp down and hold him sitting on the floor of the shower and very carefully bathe him while he sits on my lap.

  • haha, it's not that hard. I put her in a bouncy seat outside the shower while i wash myself, and then i pick her up and bring her in with me holding her tummy to tummy kinda. She loves the feeling of the water on her back, her face gets all "oooo" looking haha. I lean her on my chest and hold her there with one hand while the other hand squeezes baby wash into itself (pre-open the bottle though!) and then rubs her down. Then I flip her around so her back is leaning on my chest, and wash her tummy with the soap that's still in her hair. She looks up at my and grins and really enjoys the whole thing. I don't let the water fall directly on her face though... but everywhere else she likes :)

She hated baths in her little tub, and a friend of mine suggested this - now it's all we do. It's easy PLUS I get a shower out of the deal :)

I have no idea!  It sounds very dangerous but more than that...if I had to shower in the water temperature that was safe for a baby I would be freezing!

  • OK I've been doing this since Zoe was about 2 weeks old. She hated her baby tub on the counter, because she got way too cold. I don't blame her. At first, I would get in the tub, already filled with water, sit cross legged, and my DH would bring her to me. I'd lay her across my lap. When we were finished, DH would come and get her. This was a help because I was a little nervous at first. Now I'm much more comfortable while DH is at work, so what I do now, is get the water running. Go ahead and get undressed, grab the kiddo, carefully sit in the tub (on a non-slip mat of course), bathe her with the shower curtain closed so she stays warm, and I leave her towel on the floor right next to the tub. When I need to stand up, I brace myself and hold her in one arm tightly, and hold on for dear life to the tub with my other hand. I wrap her in the towel and lay her in the baby tub on the counter until I can get dressed. I keep her in the towel for a while so she can dry a little and stay warm. No one wants to be all wet out in open. After she's been pretty cozy for a while, I get her dressed. She loves it. Hope this helps. Don't be scared, it's a great bonding experience.

  • One more thing...I keep the water pretty warm, she loves it. She shivers if it's luke warm. So as long as I'm comfortable she is ok. Just look for signs that it's too hot. I don't think you need the water to be as chilly as you read in books honestly.

  • We shower together often with help from DH. He gets her undressed and brings her to me after I've had time to wash myself up. Then he stays outside the shower curtain in case I need his help. When we're done showering he takes her and wraps her up in a warm towel.

  • For me, it's a time saver, a baby calmer, and a cuddly experience. I put a receiving blanket over the shower rod.  I get baby naked, then wrap him in his towel.  I put him in the baby bath tub sitting outside of the shower. I get the shower going, get undressed myself, then get in and take care of my shower. I just do the basics on these mornings. Then I put the receiving blanket over my shoulder.  I reach out and unwrap baby, then bring him in the shower with me.  He loves it.  I find the receiving blanket gives me extra grip so I don't have to worry about him slipping out of my hands.  Sometimes when he's uber upset and nothing seems to console him, we'll take a shower.  Brings us both peace! I also love taking a bath with him and then nurse in the bath tub.  It is really relaxing and I joke for LO, it's like a swim up bar!

  • I've seen mesh slings that you wear in the shower, so you can wear the baby.  I'm just a fan of the baby tub, just keep a warm wash cloth over their belly and keep squeezing warm water on it....key is to keep them warm and don't start a bath if they're already in a pissy mood.
  • I have tried bathing together but not a shower. It sounds like a good experience tho!
