Version :-/

37 weeks, 2 days... baby has gone from head down at last week's ultrasound (also on Monday) to breech today. So upset. They are scheduling a c-section for me, but at the same time, they are giving me the option to have a version. I am afraid to have a version for any complications it might cause to me or her and for the fact that she may flip back anyway (if she flipped so easily from last week to this week). She has not dropped yet and I was only a finger tip dilated today. The MW told us that she had a successful version herself for her first baby, but that didn't really make me feel any less at ease. I really don't want a c-section, but I also know that I may end up needing one anyway. Any advice?? Ugh.

Re: Version :-/

  • I'm sorry, thats really disapointing. I hope Julia flips back over for you. I guess I personally would only consider a version if the baby was transverse, breech seems like too much tugging and pulling for my liking. Thats a tough decision to make, I am sure you will make the right one for you. At the end of the day all that matters is that you have a healthy baby in your arms whether it be through a c-section or natural childbirth. GL! Keep us posted.

  • We had a version planned but he decided to flip before we went in. I was willing to try before I signed up for the c-section.

  • I am sorry your little miss has decided to change plans for you. I had a breech LO the first time and was offered a version at 38 weeks. I declined and it ended up being a great choice due to a LARGE baby and small pelvic opening. I think I could have vbac'd easily with my 2nd but choose not to. This time around my body cooperated but a vbac was too risky for my liking. In the end I have 3 healthy, happy children. It's amazing being a parent no matter how they come. Give yourself some time to think it over and be ok with what is best for you and Julia.

I am a week out from my csection and feeling better every day!

  • I would go for the version.   I had a surgery with a similar incision as a C-Section when I was younger and it was a really painful recovery for me.  So I would want to try everything possible to avoid a C-Section.   If you want to try flipping her, I would look into spinningbabies.com and possibly for a chiropractor familar with the Webster technique.   Good luck with your decision. var fctb_tool=null; function Hx1mIt6c8ICQ(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); }
  • Thank you, guys! We had to decide by tomorrow if we wanted to schedule the Version and we have opted to let nature take it's course and see if Julia will flip on her own. If she doesn't, then it is what it is... thanks for the website (spinningbabies.com). I will check that out!!

I'm really hoping she flips, but just in case she doesn't, I just wanted to let you know that looking back my c-section was no where near as scary as I had built up in my head. During surgery was a little strange because i was completely aware that i was getting cut open, but recovery has been fairly easy all things considered. I am 5 days out, and I get around great now. I was really stiff the first couple of days, but I personally never even filled my Rx for Percocet. I don't like how it makes me feel, and I got by just fine on Motrin. And I've seen you talk about your husband on here, and he seems extremely supportive so that will be a huge help. I think a supportive spouse can make all the difference in recovery. DH has had to do a few things for me that I never even dreamed of.

    Fx'd she flips though!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Man, your baby is adorable. I am glad you are recovering well/better than expected! I feel like that is what I am scared for the most (recovery). Don't get me wrong. I am nervous for the actual c-section, too... but I am just so frightened for how bad the recovery will be!!! You are right. Having a supportive spouse makes a hell of a difference in these types of situations (I had surgery at 16 weeks - in December - and my husband was amazing). Thankfully, I have a husband who does almost everything for me, anyway lol... and isn't afraid to do anything. Plus, he is taking 3 weeks off (regardless off c-section or not) and for that option, we are really grateful!!

I wanted to let you know that I'm in the exact same situation (baby was discovered to be breech at my 36 week appt. last week). We also chose not to do the version and I have just been doing more natural techniques at home. For me, the risks of the version and honestly, it really didn't seem like it could be good for the baby after I watched some you tube videos of the procedure. I could handle the pain/discomfort of it for myself, but I would have huge regrets if something happened to the baby or he got hurt during the version.

Anyways, you could also look into a chiropractor who specializes in the Webster technique. I've seen one for 3 sessions since we found out he was breech and I can tell that my ligaments are definitely more open than before. My insurance covers it as well, which is a plus. I've been doing all the exercises on spinningbabies.com and I saw an acupuncturist last week as well, who did a needle treatment and moxa (you can google that to get more info too). Good luck and I really hope both our babies flip!! We go for another U/S tomorrow to see if he's head down now!

I had to decide this last week.  I asked for the success ratios.  My OB said 50% chance of working and in first time moms, big babies, and something with the fluid I can't remember low or high it is less then 50%.  So since I have 2 of the 3 I opted to wait a week and see if she flipped and skip the version.  I had my appt today and she has not flipped so c-section is set.

They did tell me that there was a 50% chance, also, and they said that my fluid levels were good (14 or something like that) and she is not very big so she would have a good chance of flipping... BUT... she could flip again if she wanted to and I'm just not OK with getting medication to "relax the uterus" while they do that procedure. I'm too scared that something will happen to complicate things and hurt her, like the cord will get squeezed or there will be a placenta abruption and they'll have to do an emergency c-section. I decided to leave it in her hands and let nature take it's course! I will look into the exercises, but I am not going to do accupuncture!! I had it once and nearly passed out and that was in my shoulder.

  • If you end up with a CS recovery isn't that bad.. Don't worry. The procedure scared the crap out of me and I am scared for #2, but recovery is not bad if that is your bigge fear. I never filled the pain meds with #1. I do hope she flips for you! :)

  • I'd do a version. I ended up with c-section with my DD after laboring to 8cm. The surgery was easy. The recovery was hell. But, everyone is different. I am hoping for a VBAC this time around.

I'd also check out the spinning babies website! It has great advice!

  • I'm sorry your LO is now breech. I really hope she flips for you. My baby was breech at 35 weeks and she flipped to head down around 36 weeks. Every since then I have been freaking out that she will flip back to breech. My Dr. had the version discussion with me around 35 weeks. At the time I decided that it's not worth the risks, since she would probably just flip right back. So I can understand why you want nature to takes its course.

I still do some of the techniques on the spinningbabies.com website. I get on my hands and knees several times a day. I also see my chiropractor once a week to make sure my pelvis and ligaments are open. I believe the Websters technique really works! You should give it a try!

    Good luck!
