Cycle might get cancelled:( Advice Please.

I went in for a follie check today and had 6 follies that were between 14-17. 2_17s, 2_16s, 1_15 and 1_ 14. They told me to suspend my Follistim dose tonight and come back tomorrow for another check. If the smaller ones peter out then we will continue, if they show growth, we'll cancel the cycle.

I am pretty upset. I really thought this was going to be it for us. I didn't get to talk to the RE today, but will tomorrow. I'll also ask about my estrogen levels. Hopefully, they are a little low so the doc will think that each follie doesn't have an egg.

With our MFI history and lower AMH and AF count, I'm inclined to go through with it. Any advice?

Thanks, Jenna. This is what I'm leaning towards, too. DH's guys tend to be sluggish, if moving at all. I have to admit, I feel stightly hopeful that I can produce so well with such low numbers. But, as we have learned, lots of follies does not equal a baby.

  • I agree with PP, depending on your check tomorrow I would go for it as long as you are ok with the potential of multiples.  Fingers crossed for you!

  • I'm so sorry :( that's so frustrating.  We don't have MFI but please keep in mind at least for me and my cycle, we conceived fraternal triplets with 2 15s and a smaller "unviable" follicle.  Hopefully those smaller ones do drop off for you but with four right size follicles I'd still be hesitant, it's just so hard to guess what might happen.  I don't suppose there's any chance you could convert to IVF?

I was hoping you'd chime in:) Unfortunately, there is no chance of converting. Not only does my RE only do retrievals once a month, but we don't have enough IF coverage left to do IVF. This is our last covered cycle. Everything after this will be OOP. This was supposed to be our last cycle ever.

I have enough Follistim for another cycle, but was really hoping not to have to do it. If this cycle ended in a BFN, we were just going to go on as a family of 3. But, I really don't want it to end with a canceled cycle or HOM.

But, I'll give you an idea of our MFI. At our first IUI DH's post wash count was 8 mil with a 10% motility count. At our second IUI he had a post wash count of 5 mil with 60% motility. According to one website, our chances of conceiving at all with IUI/Injects is only 6% with those numbers.

    Thanks for your imput!

I know how badly you want this but, those are getting up there.  If you said you had 3 mature follies, given your history, I'd say go for it but, you do not want to play with anything over that.  Two 17 and two 16 are getting up there and you have two more so close.  Follies can always split as well.  I had two mature follies that were 17 an 19 and both took.

I really hope you get good news tomorrow Lilinzlou....GL-

I was thinking the exact same thing....covert to IVF and keep up the follistim.  This would scare me to death.  You have a very real possibility of getting pregnant with 5 or more babies here.  Whatever you decide, I wish you the best!

  • If it were me, I would probably push to go for it if at all possible.  I would deal with the consequences of multiples if it came to that.  MFI is such an unknown.  But especially because you are dealing with MFI, I would go for it.

  • Thanks, everyone! I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. We'll make our decision based on the results and what the RE recommends. He said he'd feel good about 5 mature. So, we'll see. DH wants to go for it no matter what. He isn't feeling too confident in his swimmers.

  • My SIL got pg the cycle she had FOUR follies release, and they did IUI with no MFI. One healthy baby.

    I would so do it.

  • I would go with the recommendation of you re. I know it's difficult, but I think because we are dealing with the emotional side of things we would go with anything. My first iui cycle I had six mature follicles and they did give me the go ahead to continue, but with the understanding that my estrogen was really high and a had a greater chance of high order multiples. Have they called you with your estrogen level yet? Many thoughts and prayers out to you that you are able to continue with thus cycle and it gives you a sticky baby :)

  • Oh Lil, I so hope that the doctor gives you the go ahead tomorrow!  If he doesn't, do you think you would have any chance if you just tried to do TI?  With the MFI I would really want to go for it if I were you.  It would be a little nerve-wracking to think that you could end up pregnant with quite a few babies, but it would seem that the odds of that are pretty low with the MFI.  I guess you never know though.  I hope that you get good news tomorrow!

  • Lil, I say go for it too! Be firm and stick to your guns! And if for some reason the Dr isnt for it, maybe see if they can do what they did for us in december, by doing a type of Follie "egg" removal to ruduce. Remember we had 9 mature and they reduced it to 4 or 5. and look at us now,we have healthy baby girl due in 4 months.

I have faith that this your cycle. I think and pray for you daily in hope that this is your month! I do for all the ladies here. But you have really been on my radar lately and want you to know this! Best of luck to you and your family and keep us posted! Ill be really thinking hard of you tomorrow with lots of extra prayer!!

I would say it might be worth a shot to have a few extra eggs release to better the chances!
