Newborn photos

Are any of you ladies scheduling a newborn photo session? We would like to, but it seems so expensive, especially if you want a digital rights to the photos so you can email/post to friends, etc. Annoying. Thoughts? If so, how much are you spending (if you dont mind me asking)

Thanks!

Re: Newborn photos

  • We are going to go the cheap route and either find someone who needs to build their portfolio or I'll do it myself. I'm no professional, but I have some ideas and plan on checking out some how-to sites and books

  • we shopped around to try to find the best pics with the best price.  its INSANE in our area.

ours is a $250 sitting fee, she comes to your house.

i think our photo package is about $1000.  it includes 3 small brag books with pics, some big pics and some smaller pics.

    announcements are like $2.50 each.

no digital copies.  that cost like $250 per image or something crazy!

its actually insane when i write all that out-  eeeek!

  • We are doing a maternity shoot and a newborn shoot with the same photographer.  I love her work.  It is $180 for each session and that includes all touchups, cd and all rights to the photos.  She will do prints for you, but I am going to send them off myself.  I think it is a great price.

Our hospital offers them pretty cheap through a photography service. So you can just bring in a couple items you want for the pictures when you go to deliver and they'll do it before you leave. It's very handy!

  • We're lucky that our wedding photographer (great work, does photojournalistic style) also does newborn photography and is giving us $50 off. We're paying $200 for the newborn photo shoot and a CD with digital rights. No prints. I plan on doing Shutterfly for books, framed pictures, etc.

  • I agree with everyone else, see If u can find a student or a friend do it. If ur are in the Chicagoland area, I am using autumn breeze photography and she haves u just the cd with all the prints for a extremely affordable price. However, u have to make ur own prints. U can look up her work on Facebook. Hope everything turns out well

  • Sign up for Groupon and LIving Social, I get photography offers about twice a month.

All of the hospitals in our area have a contract with a photography place and they schedule a free photo shoot for all new moms and families.  With DD it was $125 for the CD and rights. Nothing was edited, so that sucked (newborns do NOT have pretty skin!) but I was happy with most of the pics.  I knew about it ahead of time so made sure DH and I were presentable and we had a few outfits for DD.

Maybe call your hospital and see if they have something like this?  I would guess this is starting to become the norm.
